I don’t recall why I installed Plex Preview in the first place but it’s on my two Roku 3’s and there seems to be no way to remove it as it doesn’t appear with the other apps in Roku Store, only the regular Plex app is there. Maybe I added it using a code, but there is no way to remove it in my Roku account either.
Is there a reason to keep this app and if not is there a way to remove it because I’ve looked all over and can’t figure this out. Thanks to anyone who might be able to enlighten me about this, it’s not the end of the world but has been bugging me quite awhile trying to understand why it’s like that and for thinking it’s of no use anymore.
As with all Roku apps,
Position the selector on the app
Click the Options (*
)
Scroll down to “Remove Channel” to remove the app
As it turns out the app was not added from the Roku channel store and therefore does not appear in this area to do these steps. It cannot be removed this way and that is the problem. Evidently, I’m not the only one who has had this problem and Roku has done nothing to resolve it regardless of being aware of it. Thanks!
If the app was side-loaded and does not respond to conventional methods then you will have one recourse. Press and hold the RESET button on the unit to restore it to factory default.

ALL apps on the Roku regardless if they were installed from the channel store or installed by using a code can be removed by pressing * when the channel is highlighted on the Roku and then choosing delete from the drop down menu.
The only exception might be an app installed in developer mode but that is impossible for the Plex Pass Preview app because the code was and will NEVER be made available for developer mode.
I do think that apps must be removed from the Roku main screen and not from the channel store.
I’m sorry that people have not believed me when I say this app cannot be removed by pressing * or through the channel store but this is for a fact the case. I came looking for help, not to prove it. Thanks for trying but the fact remains that I have two versions of Plex on Roku and the Preview version refuses to be removed regardless of how I try to remove it and I have tried it all short of setting it on fire and walking away. Please consider my question withdrawn.
@Loquacious1
We believe you but given this is the first we’ve heard back since January and are only learning now you’re still unsuccessful,
I believe it’s time to perform a full factory reset of the device. That will remove anything ‘stuck’ in it
My apologies for not reporting sooner, there was a medical emergency which took precedence over Plex matters. I got back to this relatively harmless annoying issue as time permitted. I would never have factory reset Roku to remove a pesky app, but Roku updated and had already done this on its own, yet the Preview app still remained.
As it turns out I’ve had time to fiddle with this since my last post and discovered there is a way to remove the Preview version of Plex for Roku but it was not through the ‘Channel Store’ as mentioned as means to remove the app. It is correct that the app was ultimately removed by using * to do so, however, it must be done within the Preview app itself, not by simply highlighting it and pressing *. There was no other way and I didn’t notice these options when using Plex Preview as I only used it a short time before installing the other version which was used instead. Also, I do not use a Roku remote as I don’t care for it and replaced it with a Logitech Harmony remote which is programmable and for this reason forgot which button I’d programmed to perform the * action which does not appear as such on the viewable screen. It had been programmed under ‘options’ as it turns out and I very rarely use * for anything.
So there you have it, the problem was resolved due to discovering the actual location of removal options so I could follow instructions to remove the Preview version of Plex. Thanks for your help, these instructions were correct despite the app not being located in the Channel Store and often the devil is in the details.
I had believed the app should have been located in the Channel Store which caused confusion and if it had been, there would have been no issue in removing it. I’ve learned a lesson in removing Roku apps added using codes and expecting them to be found in the Channel Store. Removing them isn’t hard, only differently done. Had even one Roku support employee known this, I wouldn’t be here since I had turned to them first.
When Roku does a firmware update, they don’t perform a hard reset back to factory. The update-in-place and leave all your installed apps as they are.
Now that things are calming again and you have time, I would still perform the factory reset
