In the BBC iplayer, I see items like:

How can I, over http, have Plex launch this? playFile and playMedia both fail, as does some attempts to hit the link directly (from the local box).
Hmm, I would check the iOS client (or Android) and see what they send. I suspect perhaps they doing a bit of tweaking with the WebKit URLs.
