Plex PVR Feedback - Grid View - Channel List

This feedback is just for the PVR/Live TV, the rest of PLEX, is perfect, and has just gotten better and more stable with every release, this was why I purchase a Plex Pass.

I tried Plex DVR when it first came, it was terrible, was great to see, but didn’t work very well, I have just tried it again with the latest Beta, its a lot better, but still unusable.

Does anyone on the Dev team have a spouse thats, well lets say, troubled in the arts of all thing technical? (WAF or SAF comes to mind)

There is no way my wife or kids could use your Live TV/DVR, its just plain messy, how about giving us the option to just list the channels, in a simple list, with name of the channels and turn off/disable the guide all together as a temporary fix.

I don’t think you should bother with guide data until you have a grid view like every other TV/PVR app in existence, I have been using NextPVR and Kodi on NSTV’s for a couple of years, works great, not perfect, but even my mother in law can use it, I also just tried TVMosaic, and this is what the PLEX DVR should be like, anyone messing around with PLEX DVR at the moment should take a look at TVMosaic, it doesn’t need to transcode to play on an AppleTV either, CPU on my PLEX server sits at 6% when TVMosaic is playing a full HD channel, with PLEX, its around 12% with hardware transcoding and 75% with software.

Splitting up the tv shows and movies into seperate things is just plain messy and does not fit with the free to air TV style, its perfect for streaming content, but not live TV.

You need to have the following two types of UI’s

  • Grid View (should be standard with all PVR’s)

  • Plain Channel List (with logo first, then channel name then whats currently playing, nothing else)

You also need to work on speed, the start up time for a channel is terribly slow, on the same server, both NextPVR and TVMosaic are much faster at starting, stopping and channel switching, my server is no slouch either, its a quad core intel, water cooled with 2 x 8 drive raid 6 arrays running on HP p410 raid controllers along with PCIE quad intel gigabit card running into several netgear night hawk switches, with an SSD for my buffer/transcoder cache, with all this and it still takes 10 seconds to start a channel, sometimes I have to click back and fire again as I get the constant spinning ring of death.

Cheers

I agree. My wife will not let me “cut the cord” until she can use the DVR abilities of PLEX as easily as our current cable box. The lack of a Grid style program interface is costing me about $80 a month.
