Plex Server Cannot Connect to Itself - "Something went wrong. An unexpected error occurred"

Server Version#: 1.28.2.6151

So I’ve been running Plex on Windows 10, and on the last update, it basically stopped working. To be clear, I am on the computer where the server resides, and I have direct access to the drive containing the media it should be able to access. This is not through an app or remotely but local. I’m getting “Something went wrong. An unexpected error occurred” and I’ve looked for anything on my problem but I can’t find anything.

That being said, I’ve had this problem periodically before, but usually, if I give it a minute, it’s fine, and it usually works remotely. This time, it’s just dead. I looked for logs, and the debug option is now gone from settings, and I noticed my server says indirect, which some digging showed to be possibly not relevant to this.

I can see this update made some interesting changes, and I did change my password as well which caused to have to reclaim my server. I had hoped that was it, but no dice. I’m still dead in the water. I really don’t want to uninstall the update and go back to a previous version since there’s no guarantee that’s the problem.

Thanks for anything on this.

So OP here.

After some digging, I found the database was giving the error message of database disk image is malformed. I following the instructions in this article (https://support.plex.tv/articles/repair-a-corrupted-database/) to diagnose the problem and repair the database. The integrity check confirmed the error message I found in the logs, and the recovery instructions worked perfectly.

For those wanting to find those logs without Googling that as well, click here: https://support.plex.tv/articles/200250417-plex-media-server-log-files/. The console under that same maintenance location is also quite informative. I attempted to rescan my library to see what would happen, and got hit with a barrage of errors.

So if you’re searching the internet desperately looking for “Something went wrong. An unexpected error occurred,” here is one possible, potentially catastrophic problem that it could be. Follow the diagnostic instructions in that article above to see if the database could be the problem.

Also, backup your database regularly. I promise I will from now on.

FYI that should happen every 3 days, and be automatic.

Yes database corruption is the most common cause, and posting your server logs will assist others in identifying this problem.
