Plex server unavailable on Wii U

I am trying to help a friend use Plex through the Wii U web app. After setting up the server on a Windows 8.1 laptop, I signed in on the Wii U. The laptop’s Plex server was listed, but marked as “Unavailable”. I tried setting up a server on a different laptop running Windows 10, and this server also appeared as unavailable on the Wii U. (All three devices are connecting through the same wireless network.)

I noticed that both laptops listed the other laptop’s Plex server as unavailable, and I was able to resolve that by setting “Allow Fallback to Insecure Connections” to the “On same network as server” option. I set the same option in the Wii U web app settings, but both Plex servers remained unavaialble.

So, as it stands now, both laptops can correctly access the other laptop’s Plex server, but the Wii U web app sees them both as “Unavailable”. I’ve done some reading about the server unavailable issue, but I haven’t found anything that seems applicable. The issue seems specific to the web app running on the Wii U. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks!

I’m sorry to say that the Wii U is not supported for the web app. We’ve previously seen it break when we use more memory than it can handle and we don’t see enough use of it to justify too much work on it.

It’s a shame, because the gamepad experience was really quite nice!

Thanks for your reply, indeed unfortunate.

Is there another way (outside of the web app) to get plex operational through the wii U?
