For those who are seeing Plex stop running for no apparent reason, I’d like to enable memory usage logging.
The procedure involves adding the hidden preference in “Preferences.xml”
DSM:
- Stop Plex
- Open FileStation:
- (DSM 7) - PlexMediaServer → AppData → Plex Media Server
- (DSM 6) - Plex → Library → Application Support - Plex Media Server

Install Synology Text Editor app (if not already installed)

Right-click “Preferences.xml” →
Open with Text Editor -
At the bottom, right before the closing
/>addLogMemUse="1" -
It will look like this:

Save the file
-
Start Plex
Plex:
- Settings - Server - General - Show Advanced
- Ensure “DEBUG” logging is enabled
- Ensure “VERBOSE” logging is disabled
- “SAVE” if changes made.
Now, when it fails with OOM errors, we will be able to see exactly which action caused it. (We are pretty close to being 100% certain but the more information which can be gathered ; the better)

I just came here to see if there was a solution for this issue (it’s been happening for me as well). I have followed the steps to enable memory error logging and I’ll report back after my next crash.
Done on an Asustor NAS. Only slightly different, could not find a text editor that I can install, so downloaded and edited the file, then uploaded etc.

Would you please verify LogMemUse="1" is in your preferences file ?
I am not seeing any memory usage debug.
It is, but I just realized I have another parent Plex folder which is just ‘Plex’ that has a Preferences.xml as well. I’ll put it in there too just to make sure and report back next time.
This is how it was set up yesterday. I stopped Plex from running, edited the file, saved it then restarted Plex and waited for the issue to happen again.
This is a huge file, wow. It won’t let me finish the upload - 64MB. Am I zipping the right folders?
Did you set LogNumFiles manual preference?
The default, which is 5 rollover files, is about 4 MB when zipped.
You can keep just the last 10-15 Plex Media Server.x.log files in the zip – Dump the rest.

LogMemUse was added to PMS after the version you’re using (1.24.0.4930) so there is no memory usage data in the logs.
All I can see is there was a crash and that the dump file is sitting in the Crash Reports folders because uploading is disabled.
Can you confirm?

What version of PMS was logmemuse enabled on?
1.24.0.4930-ab6e1a058.zip (1.5 MB)
LogMemUse=“1” began in the 1.24.4 / 1.24.5 timeframe. (I saw it internally somewhere in those two versions)
I will go through these as best I can. I’ll likely need Engineering to help.
Here are some logs from mine stopping for no apparent reason on a DS1019+ unit. Hopefully, I had the settings you need turned off/on in this.

Synology 418play with 6gb ram

Plex : 1.25.0.5246 (version just before made the same problem so i update to see)
plex daily crash
as i can see a lot of people have the same problem
Your problem is “too many folders to watch”. Here you can see the Notify table loading until it fills up

To resolve this, we simply increase the table size.
