Plex stops working - requiring syno reboot

Hi all

an issue has cropped up recently wherein I have to reboot my syno from time to time, due to Plex being unwilling to play nice. It’s been several updates, but I can’t seem to be rid of the issue.
The latest log is attached, based on what I found in it I have:

  • Disabled sync for all users.
  • Removed all folders in the tmp transcode folder

Looks like it complains a bit over my TV as well, due to being unable to find a profile for it. I’m about to invest in a nVidia shield, so I expect that be resolved in due time.
Can anyone find a reason for these crashes?

Let’s start with the easy stuff:

Your CPU isn’t the fastest so this type of slowness (Database) fragmentation is really going to be felt and cause it to not play well.

Jun 05, 2018 22:59:09.447 [0x7fee5ebff700] WARN - SLOW QUERY: It took 400.000000 ms to retrieve 7 items.

The solution here is to hover over Libraries, expose the ellipsis, and “Optimize Database” then restart PMS

Everything else I see is a cascade failure of that root error.

Oh, sorry, I should clarify. Xpenology.

Optimize database is set as a schedueled task and I run it myself frequently. CPU is plenty fast, being an octocore 2.4ghz.

it’s still an Atom C-series. It’s not fast by definition. It’s a bit quicker than the C2538 in the Synology DSx15 models but not by much.

That said, how big is the DB and how many Sync items do you have? According to your logs, you have quite a few which have become orphaned . You might want to consider reviewing what is in the sync list .

The other activity happening is a considerable amount of scanner activity including image generation. That will bury any Atom CPU

It hasn’t been a problem before. And frankly, this CPU handles six simultaneous streams without even breaking a sweat. It’s pretty great. I’ve removed all sync items now, and disabled sync for all accounts, it has yet to fail again.
But you suggest disabling thumbnail generation?

Before you take action on my suggestion, may I have the information I requested about how much space Library is using?
Some users have as much as a couple Terabytes in use with 90% of that coming from chapter thumbnails. This is why I ask.

The ratio: GigabytesUsed / NumberOfVideoItems is the concern. When you have as much or more space used for your BIF files (the thumbnails) as you do for the video itself then there is an issue.

133GB presently. I disabled thumbnail generation, unsure if that cleans up automatically or not?
