Okay, so it isn’t with those albums, but I did notice that Plex had done something similar with multiple albums I have, tried to fix it, and it exhibited the behavior I described.
The album in question is Speak to Me by Julian Lage. Plex insists that the Artist is Julian Lage Group, for which I have exactly one album. (Plex insists this for all 7 albums that should be Julian Lage albums; I have one album that is, in fact, by Julian Lage Group.)
I have Prefer Local Metadata checked for the library in question.
In Mp3tag, the Artist and Album Artist are both Julian Lage, with no mention of Julian Lage Group.
When I change the Artist in Plex from Julian Lage Group to Julian Lage, it briefly “moves” it to Julian Lage, and then, within a matter of seconds, updates it and “moves” it back to Julian Lage Group (the files don’t move, just the organization within Plex.)
The album is located in …/Music/Julian Lage/Speak To Me.
So, while it’s not the specific albums in question in this thread, I believe it is exactly the same behavior described.
Curious where this is at and if I’m experiencing the same issue.
I’m seeing stuff like this where I add a CD, and it split it into 2+ albums even though the Album Artist is the same and the album names are exactly the same and all the files are in the same directory:
This has happened since I’ve been using Plex for Music, but it’s really annoying as I rip more CDs and buy more digital tracks as it doesn’t seem to be paying attention to the tag info nor is the “Prefer local metadata” (which I have checked) seeming to work.
Those were set up by Picard (MusicBrainz), so I don’t think that’s even possible. I didn’t see anything funky either.
On the other hand, I noticed that “album artist” isn’t the only thing required, you also want “total discs” or Picard won’t add the disc number prefix in multi-disc sets.
I’m betting there are some other hidden things we’d need to consider that aren’t obvious.
