I was delighted to discover Plexamp now support Casting to Google Chromecast devices. My excitement soon turned to disappointment when I discovered this functionality does not support gapless playback. I don’t suppose there is a fix workaround to get gapless audio playback when Casting from Plex?
You might want to read this thread on the same topic where users explain why Chromecast acts this way (vs. other protocols).
Thanks. I read the thread, but I’m not sure it answered my question. Google Play Music is able to Cast gapless playback. Are you saying there is a fundamental reason that Plex can’t?
Plex can’t because the Plex chromecast app doesn’t support gapless playback, which is fraught with peril on a Chromecast/in JS. It’s probable Google Play plays gaplessly via a server-side mechanism which provides a gapless stream it plays.
Plex could potentially do the same thing, but it’s a pretty large chunk of work.
Thanks for the reply. I can’t begin to understand why this would require so much effort with Plex.
However, I have discovered a very simple solution. I turned on the integrated DLNA server in Windows 10 and used the Hi-Fi Cast android app to stream my music with gapless playback.
What’s more work- creating a Plexamp roku/shield app or fixing the casting gapless playback issue?
Please do one of those-
