.plexignore shows strange behaviour

Hi everybody,

I have a folder named ‘Fotos’. It contains a .plexignore File which excludes the CR2 files.

This folder has a subdirectory ‘Kirche’ which itself has some subdirectories:

Fotos

Kirche

CR2
Erstkommunion
Fototermin
Koki2010

'Kirche contains a .plexignore with exactly the following contents (all lines shown, snip and snap of course not in the file):
—Snip–>
& PlexServer ignoriert die angegebenen Verzeichnisse und Dateien
&Grundsätzlich sollen CR2-Dateien ignoriert werden. Es gibt dazu JPGs
& Syntax
& Ignore all files with “trailer” in the name
& trailer

& Ignore files with the extension “.cr2”
& *.cr2

& Ignore directories called “Modified”
& Modified/*

& Ignore all “.tif” files in the “thumbnails” subdirectory
& thumbnails/.tif
CR2/

<—Snap–
(& are hashtags which in this forum are fomat tags)

No, the file does not have additional extension…

I would assume that all folders in the folder ‘Kirche’ are scanned but the folder named CR2.

If I scan the ‘Fotos’-Folder, the ‘Kirche’ Folder is scanned with all subdirectories, including the CR2 Folder.

On the other hand, if I create a new Media Library containing only the ‘Kirche’ Folder, the scan does not find any valid files, not in the folders I’d like to scan nor in the CR2-Folder.

I am totally puzzled. can anybody help me?

Thank you for your time

Ole

Hash tags? Hash tags are #

The format you appear to specify is not as it should be.

If you can use Code paragraph formatting , it will allow us to see more clearly. (the forum itself will not interpret your .plexignore file.

if you use triple grave on one line

then type
something,
closing with another triple grave sequence,
this is how it appears

As extra, The specification for .plexignore is here https://support.plex.tv/hc/en-us/articles/201375253-Excluding-New-Content-with-plexignore

You may include a Hash character if you wish.

# This is an example
\#recycle` # ignore #recycle directory names

Oh,

thanks for your help an your patience. I was experiencing some problems with my browser here. I had to clear the cache before I could see all the mess I had created before…

This is my .plexignore file:

# PlexServer ignoriert die angegebenen Verzeichnisse und Dateien
#Grundsätzlich sollen CR2-Dateien ignoriert werden. Es gibt dazu JPGs
# Syntax
# Ignore all files with "trailer" in the name
# *trailer*

# Ignore files with the extension ".cr2"
# *.cr2

# Ignore directories called "Modified"
#Modified/*

# Ignore all ".tif" files in the "thumbnails" subdirectory
# thumbnails/*.tif
CR2/*

This file doesnot have any effect at all. According to support.plex.tv/hc/en-us/articles/201375253-Excluding-New-Content-with-plexignore
it should have an effect. It should exclude the directory named CR2, right?

I had Plex Server on a Windows system before. There, everything worked fine. Now, I’m on a Synology ds3617xs.

In the meantime, I have found out that there are more problems:

it seems that none of the .plexignore files in my tree work anymore. Thus, also the .CR2 files to be ignored by the .plexignore file in the root directory (not the above) are scanned and displayed.

In addition to that, when adding a new folder, only the root folder of the volume is displayed. When I click it to go further in the structure, the root folder seems to be emtpy. And, as I mentioned i the former post, the scanner does not find any file anymore, but there should be thousands…

Does this make it clearer?

Thanks…

This is much more clear.

Windows file names are not case sensitive, Linux are case senstitive. This said "CR2" != "cr2" != "Cr2" != "cR2"

Regarding not seeing files, this is classic Linux file permission rules. Linux does not let users (plex) see your files unless you grant permission.

See the resolution steps and a method to permanently automate handling of this in the Linux Tips thread of the Linux forum
