plexmediaserver-1.13.2.5154 on CentOS 6.9?

I was going to update my server version to the newest but noticed is says on the download page. CentOS 7 or higher. Will this new update not be compatible with CentOS 6.9? Will I need to move over to CentOS 7 moving forward?

Works for me, and because 6.9 is reaching EOL I’ve been working on a
plan to move to C7.5

Unencumbered by the thought process.

I’m in the same boat as the OP. My PMS is running on CentOS 6.9. CentOS 6 will receive maintenance updates until late 2020, so I’m curious why the decision was made to stop support for CentOS 6 at this time. I know I have to upgrade to CentOS 7 eventually, but a little warning would have been helpful for me to plan this out. Discovering that the OS for my PMS is no longer supported from its absence in the download options is not a great user experience.

I’m not quite sure why this is a problem. Is there something I said which gave the impression Centos 6 is discontinued?

The installer support both init and systemd systems

I’ve done some additional research.

  1. Centos 7 has been available for 3+ years now.
  2. Centos 6 has been deprecated due to its age.
  3. At some point, its libraries will no longer be compatible. No work will be done for Centos 6.

@ChuckPa: I don’t believe you said anything which implies CentOS 6 as an OS is discontinued; however, support for CentOS 6.9 with Plex is no longer clear from the text in the downloads section (see image). I don’t recall what the actual text used to say, but there was an option specifically for CentOS 6 x86_64

I understand the CentOS 7 has been out for a few years now, but CentOS 6 will continue to get updates until 2020. I was planning on upgrading all my servers to CentOS 7. All I’m saying is some notice from Plex on ending support for CentOS 6 (if that is indeed the case) would have helped me plan this out. Going forward, I will have to run a server I cannot (or should not) update, until I can make time to setup a new server running CentOS 7.
