PlexSync - Bidirectional syncing - Plugin?

EDIT: Dangit! Of course, I look and I see a post just a few below mine that basically asks the same thing: "Plex Server Sync" Still though, the most important part is, "Can I do this sort of stuff with plugins? Or is this way out of the ball park."

Hi All,

I'll get to the nitty gritty. My question is, how much control do plugins offer? Would I be able to develop a plugin that offers bidirectional syncing?

----

I really like Plex. I prefer it to XBMC due to the Server-Client design. What makes it a bit harder however is that new features must come from the developers themselves unless you do a plugin. I'm also new to programming and I've been exploring different projects I might work on.

One idea I had is that I would like to sync bidirectionally. So, if for example, I put a computer in my car with a plex client - assuming I can sync with it at that point - I would like it to sync when I get home and have new content. The problem arises when I go to my "second home" (my girlfriend and I are going to be going to different graduate schools) and I have new content I want to sync up to my second server, I can't do that with PlexSync as far as I understand so far.

That means in order to keep both servers in sync, I have to lug around a hard drive and plug it in in each place.

-----

In any case, as I said, I'm just exploring ideas for projects to work on.

I know PlexSync isn't desgined with this in mind, and thus why I was thinking of tinkering with it myself (i.e. it'll only cause me pain and suffering). And I also know it might be a feature only a minority of people care for.

With that in mind, my main question is just, "would this be something that is even possible for a plugin?"

I apologize if this is something that is already offered. I haven't bought PlexPass (but I have donated :) ) and thus, I haven't tried PlexSync yet. I'm waiting until PlexSync comes out of beta to then pay for it. I still am considering PlexPass though too.

I haven't developed a plugin before, so any guidance is helpful. I have a hard time knowing where to start.

Thanks!

Daniel

All you have to do is setup port fowarding, then you don't have to have two servers you just access your one server anywhere there is an internet connection.

go to http://www.speedtest.net and reply with how much upload speed you have.

That is a good idea if you are only concerned with on or two devices that have to connect to the plex server and stream data from it at the same time.

But if your dealing with more that 2 locations then you have to keep in mind that now you have one server that is supporting up to a possible 4 streams, 2 going out the wan port that is ussally a slow connection for most people. So the ideal solution is 2 servers 1 at the remote location and syncing in during low traffic periods.
