Plugins removal?

+1 on that.
Although I’m no longer hanging on. Like I wrote on a previous post, to make the final switch over to Emby I was waiting on Emby Premiere to have a holiday sale or for Plex to update the Roku client to the new UI, whichever came first.
Well Emby didn’t run a special, and now Plex updated the Roku client, so I’ve bought Premier and I’ve started setting up my Production Emby server (the previous one was just for test driving it).

+1 on me for that as well. Time to go check out Emby.

They had a sale on cyber monday. 99$ for Lifetime. It let it slip, since I was still convinced life-time was per major release which doesn’t seem to be the case anymore. Bit said about that now

Don’t let plugin support go, let it be. There’s no need to improve or build on it. Leave it there, it works! I’ve been a yearly Plex subscriber for years and if this happens my hands are forced to go to Emby.

Please bring back the legacy plugin support. I truly miss the plugin support for PLEX on Roku.

goodbye plex, you lost me as paying customer and will no longer recommend. If i could ask for refund would…

I really wish I would’ve known this earlier that they’d stop supporting plugins. I purchased a lifetime membership to Plex I would’ve never done that if I’d have known they’d drop support completely for plugin’s definitely would’ve gone with emby or something else.

I have been using Plex off and on for 3 years now. I finally was able to add several of my family members to my server and now this??? It’s just sad that Plex can not find a work around to this issue and try and make a compromise with their long time and dedicated users. Just goes to show what a little bit of money can do to a company. Me, myself, in my opinion I think it has something to do with them getting their hand caught in the cookie jar (Amazon) using the Plex cloud on Amazon is a no, no. I already paid for my premiere Emby server and will not be renewing my pass next month.

Haha, but no. Plex worked with Amazon on using them for Plex Cloud.

I read somewhere yesterday about the server’s. I will search for it and share it when I find it.

Found it. Techcrunch “Even the Plex server software is streamed from the cloud.”

Well this sucks! Does anyone know of another Media platform that offers the on-line channels/plug ins? Please advise, thanks.

PlayOn can access most of the same content.

Thanks so much!

The free on-line shows as well? I saw in a post something about “Emby?”

No Emby doesn’t really have content plugins like Plex or Kodi have. They have plugins but they are mostly geared toward systems things. They do have a couple however and one of them is a $5 plugin to allow Playon to be used via Emby.

I personally find both Playon and the plugin clunky and slow (playon is slow) so it’s not a viable substitute IMHO.

To me the only viable substitute for content is running Kodi which opens up all kinds of content. It of course isn’t client/server so every client needs to be setup. It also won’t run on Rokus or lesser hardware so it’s not a universal replacement for content either.

The only reason I bought life time membership was to use the plugins, specifically to watch free shows from the network websites after they appear on prime time, like big bang theory.

Please do not remove plugins!

Let me add my voice and the 8 other households I brought with me to PLEX - please do not remove the plug-ins. We use these every day. I find it hard to believe that only 2% use them. I am not a forum guy and searched for a place to make my feelings known. The offerings on the new Roku UI are not things we will use. Please reconsider…

well 2% of users are those who stand for 50-60% of total plex usages :stuck_out_tongue:

Those who use plugins to watch online TV channels can switch over to Serviio: http://www.serviio.org/features. From feature list I see that it supports live streaming over DLNA (scroll down to see supported formats). I have not tested it yet.

They don’t seem to have very many plugins though - http://forum.serviio.org/viewforum.php?f=20
Let us know how it works for you, and, whether or not any of those plugins still work. Most websites change every few months, plugins would have to be updated.
