Why is this in my Library and how do I disable it?
Is it working for you? All I can see is just a spinning circle for every “channel”.
Mine took like a minute or two of spinning before it started playing.
I actually want to try the feature but it’s not showing for me even though I just applied an update to my PMS (1.9.2.4285). Is anyone outside of the U.S. seeing the “NEWS” library yet (I’m in Canada)?
This is a ridiculous feature and clearly a money-grab. The privacy policy changes last month made me less inclined to look for other options than this does. Live TV/DVR still has a long way to go, and now they act like it’s time to move on to the next big thing and spring this crap on us that literally nobody asked for. I use Live TV/DVR primarily to consume news on CBS and PBS, but this really confirms that we’re headed in the wrong direction.
The Andropid app received just another update to iron out some minor wrinkles with News.
It may take several hours or even days (when on the Amazon app store) for the update to reach your device.
I’m in the US and just applied the update to my PMS… not seeing the News library anywhere in any of my apps. Any ideas?
Can one turn it off? I don’t want it in my library.

Since I’m not being charged for it, I’m missing the “money Grab” that’s occurring.

It’s a money grab from sponsors.

Agreed.
Awesome…another (for me) useless feature cluttering up the Dashboard. At least give me an option to turn it off.

Just found it on my Fire TV app. Looks like my android app and web app aren’t showing the library at all, even after having watched something in the News library from an alternative app.

Seconded. Also, as someone from The Netherlands, I’m not really that interested in the mostly American based newschannels/providers that are on offer. Please let me disable this option somewhere.

Exactly THIS!!!
This is just another money grab by Plex showing a total disregard for their users.
I really wanted to find a reason to believe I had made a mistake in my decision to move to Emby but this move by Plex to actually force content onto their users is an indication that Plex has been deceiving their users every time they say they are staying out of the content delivery business.
I dislike be lied to and Plex lies to their users therefore it would be self destructive of me to use Plex so, within the next few days, I will work to complete my migration to the superior company (Emby) and totally eliminate Plex from my system and my life.
I will not associate myself with companies that lie to me.
Plex has lost their moral center and are now nothing more than money grubbing con men.
Please allow me to disable this. It’s right at the top and I keep clicking it, and it starts playing right away with sound! Not liking this at all
I’m a Plex user to stream my media and share it with my family. When I read about the News stuff, it pissed me off for reasons I won’t explain. I wanted to give the feature a chance anyway.
Is this the right place to give feedback? I used the android app to check out this feature.
The first clip in the queue buffered more than 60 seconds before even a frame was shown. I’m currently far away from my server (which is located in europe with a 1gbit/1gbit connection), in a country with slow internet connections compared to what I’m used to. Other clips buffered a lot too. My own content starts within 10s and doesn’t interrupt playback every few seconds.
- feedback: respect my clients quality settings. And/or deliver your content faster to my server (if it has to go through my server, which I would not be happy about).
I went over the queue. 95% of the content is of a kind I would never watch. Gossip and stuff about “Bogota Beauty Pageant” (dafuq?). Also almost exclusively US content. I don’t care.
- feedback: Your feature could ask me what my interests are to provide a more interesting initial feed.
So I wanted to adjust the feed and “help the AI” and dismiss the overwhelming majority of clips. But there is no functionality for this, or I couldn’t find it. How do I change the feed - besides watching stuff I’m interested in? I just don’t have time to search - or I’m not willing to take the time.
- feedback: It would be far more enjoyable for me to dismiss stuff I don’t want to watch than scrolling and looking for stuff I want to watch. I wanted to dismiss almost everything.
The AI would be the only argument for me to use your News feature. But I will not fight through a 100 item playlist and select the few clips I might be interested in, just to hope your AI will in some point in the future reach a acceptable match-accuracy to my interests.
- feedback: I want my behavior to result in a fast change of content, I don’t have the patience to try a feature I don’t want for more than a few minutes.
Nice try, but not impressed, that was it for me. I might give it another shot in a few months when I’m back to fast internet. But probably not. I’m a Plex user to consume my media.

And you know, they sunk the Starting to understand the Team’s priorities thread. It will not bump ever anymore.

well that one is easy
(tinfoilhatmode)
with the new “improved” privacy policy that “coincidentally” has been launched today as well (search these forums for what has been “improved”) and the new “convenient” social login (that makes it hard currently to log in without “accidentally”) and now the new “free” news feature that tracks what you watch when you watch it and how much you use it … NewPlex is profiling us as users, tying our behaviour to our social accounts which they can do in their new privacy policy.
(/tinfoilhatmode)
there is no such thing as free.
Now that Plex is a company with investors behind it they’re moving in a new direction and WE are the product, not the $$ I paid back in the day for my lifetime plex pass before the millions that came in and need to be turned into a profit anymore alas.
ps @plex please let me turn it off, it sucks especially here in NL where the US based news is useless. Where are the user options?
