Scheduled task with “psupdate.exe -silent” once a day in the early morning
As soon as an update is available, you just need to press “download” in the webinterface if you want to have this release. On the next scheduled task run, this update will be installed automatically.
Note: You only need to download the new release. Do not use the “install update” button

Under users I had my daughter listed as in my home (I’ve since removed her from my home). This was causing me to enter a 4 digit pin to get onto Plex. Could this be the reason I’ve been having so much trouble with the service?
No, it’s unrelated.
What problems are you having? I see your post earlier about the user not having log on as a service permission, that’s pretty common. Anything else?
When I started having problems (could not access Plex outside the network) I uninstalled 1.1.4 and downloaded 1.1.5. Now when I try to install 1.1.5 I get this pop up window.. Not sure where to go from here.

I’ve been there, those settings are all correct. This is part of the Plex service installation. it won’t let me finish the install.
Anything in the windows application event log at the time of the error ?
I think I got it. It was set to login with “This account” instead of “local system account” under the login tab of the Service properties.
Thanks for the responses. All is up and running. Once that calmed down I took another look later in the day with a fresh eyes. And there it was, the service itself needed a port open on the firewall. Now I can access the server, which is running as a service in Windows, from outside my local network. Thank you one and all.
I’m not sure if this is related to the Service or not. I can no longer play files that are on my NAS. When I try to play a file I get a pop up window with the message “Please check that the file exists and the necessary drive is mounted.”.
My NAS is on the network and not directly attached to the computer where Plex resides. My photos and DVR recordings are on a separate drive on the computer and play just fine. The path for the NAS is "\\HOMESERVER\music\Music".

@Dominic26 That sounds like a permissions issue. You are using UNC paths, that is good. Is the user and password on the Server that is running Plex, the same user and password that has access to the share?

I’m not understanding the question. What do you mean by “user and password that has access to the share”? If you tell me where to use it I may understand.

The user running PMS as a Service. This is likely the user you log in with on your computer unless you changed it.
The user/password on your NAS to access the share, you will need to have this the same as the windows user/password that PMS is running, unless of course the share is accessible without a user (anonymously).
If you are using the ‘local system account’ to run Plex, you cannot use network storage which requires authentication.
But you should not use the local system account anyway. It is madness.

We do not use passwords to log onto the computer, 4 diff users.

you will have to set a password for the plex account and have that added as a user on the NAS with same password and the share to have access available to this account

As mentioned by @sa2000, this is likely the crux of your issue. The credentials that get passed to the NAS is your windows user and having a blank password will not work. You need to set the password for the user that is running the Plex Service though (likely the one you installed it with if you didn’t change it).
Tried To Search For A Solution But Perhaps I’m Not Asking In The Right Format To Find A Solution In The Comments (I Assume There Must Be One).
AnyWhoo, The Issue I am Having Is That When I Install PlexService_1.1.5, PMS Will Not Work At All. At Start Up, I get A Continuous Cycle Of: Plex Media Server Started.
Plex Media Server has stopped!
Plex Update Service Stopped.
Even If I Stop The Application, Plex Will Not Manually Start. I Have To Completely Uninstall the Application To Get PMS Back Up And Running Manually.
Initially I Installed 1.3 And That Was Working Fine. When I Moved To 1.4 The Issue Started So I Stopped Using It (Life Got In The Way). Now I’m Trying 1.5 And It Behaving The Same Way As 1.4 On My Setup.
-Thanks In Advance For Any Help That Can Be Provided

Have you checked the PMS logs? I imagine there is some resource that is unavailable while running as a service.
