good question. didn’t try again. I really should have a look
Nothing
Still nothing? It’s been working in Jellyfin since several months.
Hey Plex,
Any updates on tone mapping with Intel igpus in Windows?
Is this going to happen or have you given up on it?

Plex Team - is there a technical reason that tone mapping still isn’t offered for customers using recent Intel igpu’s on Windows or is the feature de-prioritized for some other reason, e.g. not enough customers running Plex Servers on Windows to justify the work? If it is being worked on, is there an ETA for feature release? To still not have feature parity across OS’s for such a key capability is very frustrating.
I would appreciate an update and it appears there are several other folks on this thread waiting as well.
Thanks
More silence…
Anyone hear anything about PMS supporting HDR Tonemapping using Intel iGPUs on windows? I’ve been watching Windows Server vNext and been itching to test some features out, but can’t if hw tone mapping isn’t supported.
The silence is deafening
Came here wondering the same as others. I have an old HP Microserver running a Quadro P400 currently and it’s starting to struggle due to it’s low end CPU. I want to switch to a newer Mini PC setup that has Quicksync available (but no space for an Nvidia GPU) and so I wanted to use Quicksync but don’t want to have to switch to Linux to keep HDR-SDR Tone Mapping.
Is Plex ever going to support HDR-SDR tone mapping with Quicksync in Windows?
Linux is a good thing but I don’t want to switch either. Should we open a feature request?
Plex Team - Can someone PLEASE take 10 minutes to give us an update on the tone mapping feature gap for Windows servers with Intel igpus??? You have a lot of paying customers in this thread that are getting increasingly frustrated with the silence.
Come on guys, they are really busy working on their … checks notes … video rental platform. You really can’t expect them to fix old known issues they have previously said they were fixing.
But at least you can now rent Barbie and Aquaman in glorious 1080p for the low low price of $5.99! Yippee!
@elan anything on the roadmap?
Jellyfin and Emby already offer this.
And they’ve added it in preview builds.
Thanks!
Thanks for the update!
I have an Intel i5-1335U 13th gen CPU. It’s in the Raptor Lake family and has Intel Iris Xe graphics, not Intel Iris Xe Max. So, if I understand the compatibility matrix correctly, my CPU doesn’t support tone mapping OR the matrix was made before the release of Raptor Lake CPU’s. Not sure which one.
UPDATE 2/21: I just tested this with the preview build and can confirm that hardware tone mapping does not work with my Raptor Lake CPU ( Intel Core i5-1335U). Ugh.
Post in the forum preview thread. Include a set of debug level server log files that capture tone mapping not working when transcoding.
-
Specifically choose the Intel graphics in Settings → Transcoder. Do not use the AUTO option.
-
Configure PMS for debug, not verbose, logs.
Settings → Server_Name → General + Show Advanced
-
Restart Plex Media Server.
Wait 2 - 3 minutes for system to fully start and log the startup sequence. -
Recreate the issue, pull server logs (settings → troubleshooting), & post to thread.
Thanks. I went ahead and did that.
