Pms on rpi3b+

Hello.
First of all, sorry for my poor english and if the question have been already asked !
I’ve read a lot of topic in several forum but i don’t know what is the discussion still ok now. Sometimes, it’s old topic (raspberry 2 or 3, but not 3b+)

I’ve bought my first raspberry for days ago.

I connect my raspberry with hdmi on my tv.
On my raspberry, i connect on USB a NTFS hard Drive.

I use omxplayer to read movies.

Now, i’d like to install a media player.

I installed Plex media server and i watch movies directly on PMS but videos are buffering and cpu is used on 90-100%. I read a lot but i don’t find the solution . If i understand well, plex transcode videos.

1/ Is it possible not to transcode movies because i read directly on PMS on rpi ? (I don’t watch on another device with a Plex client)
Or does it better if I install rasplex on the same rpi ?
Is it possible to activate hardware acceleration ?

2/ I have read an option exist to use acceleration hardware but i don’t find it : is it in server or client ?

3/ Or can we force plex to use an external player (omxplayer) ?

Many thanks in advance !

If you exclusively use your RPi as media player for media from your USB drive, then please try OSMC and ignore Plex for now.

It’s still based on Raspbian, so you can also install PMS if you like the usual way and stream your media also to other clients in your household. However, hardware transcoding is not supported on your RPi and the CPU performance is too low to transcode most videos live.
