A note on this one. Download / offline playback of podcasts is not yet in the beta. The team is actively working on it.

One of the features I anticipated most. Really excited it is here.
My biggest requests:
Great release so far!
Iād love to be able to see all the podcasts from a publisher, even better if they could have their own page with a banner/logo etc.

Smart Speed. My main podcast client is Overcast, and I usually listen between 1.5-1.9x speed.
I can change speed during playback in the web app and in the Android app.
AFAIK it should be possible in iOS too.
In the web app, it is under the āSettingsā icon (those 3 small āfadersā).
On Android it is under the vertical ellipsis ā®

Yes, you can adjust playback speed on iOS as well. While a podcast is playing, tap the more button in the bottom right (triple dots).
@OttoKerner, @kinoCharlino yes I know. But I know other apps enhance the audio as an option, which makes playback at higher speeds more pleasant to listen to.

Thanks for the suggestion. Iāve added it tot our list of feature requests for the team to review.
+1 for adding username and password login for premium podcasts
Podcasts stored on my plex server and treated like TV shows.
Would like to have a separate view sort and play sort. Like to see newest first but want to play oldest un-played first.
Loving the ideas and capturing them all for the team to go over!
I donāt know if anyone has suggested it but a integration with gpodder.net would be nice. I have near 100 different podcasts, with all their play status sync to that platform and I use it to keep my podcast apps up to date. If I had to redo all that again it would be a real headache.
Thanks.

āNeed to have āOnline Media Sourcesā set to āEnabledā via the Web interface. Will not work on my own account when set to āDisabled for Managed Users,ā (although āNewsā still works this way) which needs to be changed/fixed for those of us with users (i.e. children) that we want to protect from unrated content.āThis should work the same way as News. I tried to reproduce this by setting Podcasts to
Disabled for Managed Usersand podcasts worked as expected. What kind of error are you getting? Are you using the Web, Android mobile, iOS, or Roku? If your children are using Plex on mobile, the change is not always instant. Try force quitting the mobile app and relaunching.
I just rechecked the setting in Plex Web, and the option you mention is now there, unlike before. The only option was āNews,ā and if I Enabled it, Podcasts would work. If I selected Disabled for Managed Users (again, under News, the only available option) or āDisabledā (obviously), Podcasts would not work. Maybe a Plexmagician read my comment and then waved their magic wand.

haha love that. While I think that would be the most fun way to look at this, I think it was either having to do with 1) staged rollout, or 2) intermittent launch day issue/quirk. Neither are as interesting as your magicianās wand take! ![]()
Iāve seen requests here that already cover my main two priorities (Plex Server syncing + downloads, and sort options for both display and playback), but integration with other podcast libraries would be amazing.
Specifically, Iād love to be able to link with my podcasts from Apple Podcasts. The Podcasts app on iOS has become abysmal, hence my excitement for being able to use a multiplatform suite of players I already use, but itād be awesome to start a podcast downloaded on my phone (then played via Plex), and pick up when I get to work on my computer in iTunes (which is still a solid podcast interface).
If Plex could read the access the podcasts Iām subscribed to elsewhere, and simply play them back for me while keeping them in sync across platforms, thatād be perfect! I appreciate the option of being able to listen to my podcasts in a browser, but itās not ideal when someone comes around to ask me something, and I have to find the right tab to pause playback before taking off my headphones.
Thanks for all your hard work, Plex team! Thereās nothing like being given a gift I didnāt know I wanted!

Yeah. Iām sticking with the Plexmagician waving a wand. Definitelyā¦
Faster playback speed. I listen to most of my podcasts at an average of 2.4x speed and some at 3x (the limit in my other podcast player). Expanding that option up to at least 3x would be great.

- As a Plex Pass user Iād like to be able to have the podcast episodes stored on my server, and synchronised to my device in the exact same way as TV shows are - I can sync x amount of unwatched (unlistened) episodes, and plex keeps listen progress of each episode, and they appear on my deck.
- as a non Plex Pass users streaming a podcast from my server, and a chosen bitrate (converted live on the fly, dynamically) would be a huge boon!
YES YES YES!!! Really wish that Podcasts would have been implemented this way! Make the server do the collecting and allow the clients to sync with the server!
I think a major feature and one that I personally would find very usefull is to the ability to add my own set of files as a podcast. I have quite a few podcasts saved as mp3s. Those are no longer available for streaming and the only way to listen to them is to add them manually to a podcast app on my phone. Plex is all about streaming your own content so Iām surprised that the same doesnāt work with podcasts. Same goes for audiobooks.
Are there any plans to add the ability for streaming locally stored personal podcasts?

Yes, I think this is what everyone that wanted podcast support actually wanted, it to be stored on the server, but they gave us this horrible implementation instead. Hopefully the download support they keep talking about is for the server and not trying to do it per device. The paranoid part of my brain says they are just wanting to monetize the subscription database they are keeping safe on their servers. I hope I am wrong.
