Services need to run as services. Applications need to run in userspace.
Plex is a service and a darn good one. It just needs its own space to grow its potential.

This would be real useful when using a remote management tool like Pulseway, which is much better at monitoring and dealing with services than processes.

Yes I am new to the forums but I've been using plex for over a year, this option is a must!!!
Hi,
I would like to see Plex Server created as a service on windows, this way you could have the option of starting Plex Server when you turn on the PC. You don't have to login to an account. It is great when the power goes out, etc... when the PC powers up so does all the Plex goodness.
I am not sure if you can do this for Mac and Linux but I am sure they would love it too, if possible.

Why are we even debating this option?

Its kinda unbelievable that its not allready implemented. I can only assume that since this request isnt multiplatform, it doesnt get the priority it should.+1

Please implement this, consider this my vote for this feature request.

This has been asked for and ignored so many times, I just don't understand y the plex team blows this off and does not let plex run as a service. I am a plex pass user & I myself have asked for this more then 1 time and it still has not happened, Makes you wonder if the Plex Team listens to its customers

Really? I hope your joking.... Considering the last couple big things that have been added have been things from this section that had a large following. They may even be working on this now, who knows. It may not be a huge rush on it since there is a work around that apparently works quite well, but it would be nice to see it out of the box (I run on linux so I'm not in a big rush, I have a friend that would like to see this for his windows box though).
Like my post said though, they don't look through all the posts to see the +1's, they look at the likes on the first post. That's how it's tallied and that's what I was stating.

My guess is, it's not that high of a priority since there's already a third party app to make it run as a service. I've been using it for a couple weeks and it seems to work great:
Should be handled natively within PMS imo. I love all these new clients they are releasing now, but it would be nice if PMS got some love to. My server has to much downtime the way PMS works now.
My opinion is that the product is called Plex Media Server. Not Plex Media Application. They have a windows install for the "server", so it seems like there must be a reason why they did not implement installing a service? They made a Daemon (service) for Linux so why not windows? Now, If it's hooked into Explorer and needs to be running in user space then it should not be called a server. Anyway, I liked the 1st post to vote for it.

I really do not understand how this has not been changed into a service by now.
The only benefit to it being a user-based application is that multiple instances would be able to run, which we know is not possible. If there are no plans of implementing this, then make this a service.
Also, FYI you're not helping with the +1s. Please like this post for a relevant vote.
