Possible Plex Development Idea and Question

Hey all,

I’m pretty new to plex and what can be done with it, but I have a Plex Media Server set up with PlexPy and PlexRequests running on UnRaid in Dockers. I have around 20 or so users who generally don’t bug me about my content, but from time to time, I shut Plex down for maintenance. Normally I don’t have any issues, but occasional my users (friends) forget that Plex is free and moan about their video “stopping at the best part”.

As a temporary reminder I made a new library called the Complaint Department, put in a bunch of Rick Roll Videos and named them all enticing latest releases. If someone gets out of line, I just remove access to all of my libraries and give them access to only the Complaint Department for a week or so. It has worked wonders.

I would like to take it to the next level though. I was wondering if it would be possible to create a plugin that let’s me flag their user account and then automatically and randomly stops what they are watching and plays the rick roll video instead. If it is possible, what documentation is available to help start the process if any?

Thanks in advance,
Dave

Stopping a video: yes, only if it is transcoding.
Switching a video: no, don’t think that is possible.

Why not just send an email of planned maintenance to your friends on xx date at xx time?

I don’t see why you would want to try and piss off your friends further with this rick roll crap, when its your fault for not communicating what you’re doing in the first place.

I’m sorry, I didn’t ask for your opinion on how to run my Plex Server. I asked if it was possible to stop a video and switch to another. I believe that was answered by @JonnyWong16

@JonnyWong16 thank you for the answer by the way, I appreciate it.

Plex is an application to provide media streaming for peoples enjoyment. You’re looking for a way to prank your viewers by cutting off their current stream at random and interrupt it with a rick roll for your own sadistic kicks. What a waste of time. If you want a plugin to pull this kind of garbage, write it yourself.

You don’t know when to quit do you? I didn’t ask for your opinion, I don’t give two craps what you think, you have nothing to contribute, so please move along internet tough guy.

Also, you might want to learn how to read an entire post, since I’m sure you can’t I’ll quote you what I asked and bold the important parts.

I have no idea how to implement what you are asking but I think your idea is brilliant. :))
