Primetime Playlists

Remember ABC’s TGIF, and NBC’s Thursday Nights? Instead of adding individual items to a playlist, you add entire TV shows, podcasts, webshows, etc. Then, the smart playlist. The “smart” or “primetime” playlist, then identifies the next unwatched episode and rotates them through in the order of your playlist.

For example, suppose I have a playlist with Friends, The Office, and Game of Thrones. The Primetime Playlist would take the next unwatched episode of Friends (S01E11), The Office (S02E05), and Game of Thrones (S02E01). Then, you can watch your two-hour primetime television block… commercial free.

A further enhancement is to actually have a selection of what type of “Smart Playlist” you want:

  • Next Unwatched Episode
  • Random Episode from each show, instead of random episode across the playlist

Thanks for considering.

This sounds like another request, PseudoTV. Does that look like what you want?

Yes, I think there is considerable overlap so can understand merging or closing out this request in favor of that one. For me the distinction is that it’s not necessarily picking up in the middle of an episode like “live tv”, but custom interwoven playlists. But, in the discussion threads of PseudoTV I think a lot of those concerns have been addressed. It would ultimately come down to the execution. In Product Management terms, I’d call this a user story inside a PseudoTV feature. As a viewer I’d like to be able to round robin across multiple television series sequentially. The U/I proposed by PseudoTV is an added bonus!

(I tried searching for previously identified suggestions, but did not come across that one. Sorry, about that. Thanks for the quick reply.)

Closing this request in favor of the one linked above.
