Currently migrating my PMS from a Mac Mini to a Windows PC (i7-6700k, 32GB) so it should be quite a bit faster for transcoding 4k videos. I see many talks about virtual machines and whatnot, what’s the purpose? Benefits?
This Windows PC will be my main computer as well for surfing, gaming, etc.
Virtualizing a server has many benefits and serves its purpose, but in your case I wouldn’t do that. 4k live transcoding is taxing as is, if it happens when you’re gaming plus the overhead you get on a virtualized OS running ontop (albeit small) … Well, let’s just say you won’t be fragging any one soon

The main purpose is isolation.
I had an issue during an update and having a VM to put everything together quickly saved me.
