Which one is better for plex only … i use apple tv so mostly direct play.

I’m using a qnap 251+ turbo has it does 1080p with ease with hardware encoding and 8gb of ddr3.
Plex on qnap is ultra stable.
There’s pros and cons to both. From a CPU perspective the Synology NAS is more powerful and newer by three years. Also Synologys OS is lightyears ahead of Qnap. However, the qnap has an HDMI out as well as the ability to expand the number of hard drives with a qnap expansion module or whatever it’s called.
While you’d be good no matter which one you chose I personally would go with the Synology. Since you’re plan is to just use it as a PMS then the more advanced CPU may give you an edge over the other.
