recently got a qnap tvs-882. It works great. I have an Nvidia GPU install and plex never uses it for transcoding. I do see HW transcoding working, but, it only uses the CPU . I never see the GPU doing anything. Is there some way to get plex to use the GPU ? I currently have a GTX 1030 and I know there are some limitations. I have a 1060 card I am going to install. I never see the GPU used in any of Qnap media apps either. I have poster a case with qnap. I hoped to get some response here. At some time in the future, I want to be able to transcode 4k video. The QNAP will do that now with the CPU, but, it pushes it to 90% Would like to use dedicated GPU not CPU.
would you please do the following?
- Verify DEBUG logging is enabled (VERBOSE OFF)
 - Attempt a transcode session
 - Stop playback and wait 30 seconds for logs to flush to disk
 - Download the logs ZIP file and attach here.

Hello,
unfortunately the gtx1030 cannot transcode. It takes at least a 1050Ti, on the nvidia site there are all the references in this regard, for now qnap and the relative drivers allow 2 contemporary transcodes, on windows and other s.o. nvidia increased simultaneous video streams from 2 to 3. I hope that qnap will include new drivers in future qts updates.
Install the 1060, once made plex pass and having checked the acceleration entries harwdare and installed the nvidia drivers, set the card to use it in qts and restart the nas.
To add to @ilboss
Set the card in “QTS” mode: Control Panel - Hardware - Graphics card
I have set the startup script to look for this. It is per the QNAP developer’s kit and how QTS manages devices.
i added a GTX 1060 GPU from Qnap cpmpatability list. Still does not use the GOU at all.
logs uploaded
You logs are showing PMS is finding and using the internal ASIC of the i5.
It’s not detecting the card.
- Are Nvidia drivers (QNAP) version 418.3 or higher (the current QNAP drivers… not the old ones from a few months ago). Drivers were updated by QNAP in QTS 4.4.2
 - The card is in QTS mode? (Control Panel - Graphics)
 - The card is in the appropriate wide lane slot?

i ubstall nvida kernal driver 4.4.3.1354 and nvidia gpu driver ver 3.05 . both from qnap app store. QTS is latest 4.4.3.1354. am I missing something ?
QTS see nvidia 1060 card and it is configured for QTS mode. Crad is in corect slot according to QNAp support .
and plex uses the card for transcode ?
where would i get that dev kit or script ?
Please post a screenshot showing the Graphics Card Mode. Last I knew, the TVS-882 family didn’t support NVidia cards in QTS mode, but that may have been changed in QTS 4.4.2.x +
The scripting to activate the GPU for use in PMS is already built into the package.
I added it back when the TS-877 was new.
I look for 4 things:
- Nvidia GPU
 - Drivers installed
 - Mode = “QTS” (set in Control Panel)
 - Card available.

When all 4 conditions are satisfied, everything PMS needs is given to it.
At that point, a valid Plex Pass is required to utilize.
When performing the transcoding, the transcoder will verify the specific video can be played by that GPU card before starting playback.
verified GPU in QTS mode, latest drivers I could find installed. I am uploading logs again after trying transcode again. same thing, no GPU use shown
The drivers to install are those from the QNAP App Center.
I believe the version is 3.0.6 (might be higher) and are based on Nvidia drivers 430-something.
Is this what you have installed ?
I can’t find the v. 3.0.6 but only 3.0.5 (I’m looking forward to the 430 drivers)
The number might indeed be 3.0.5
The version we’re looking for are those which specifically were released in 4.4.2 of QTS.
With QTS 4.4.3 now launching, you can uninstall and reinstall the drivers if you wish.
