Hello all, first post. Last year I copied all of my music files to a Buffalo NAS. I wanted everything in a lossless format but I needed it in an mp3 format to stream it through dlna with my blu-ray player. So what I did was to burn everything in both formats. Well today I downloaded /setup Plex to stream with my Roku player. It all works great except plex recognizes both formats and duplicates each song in each album. Is there a way for Plex to just recognize and organize the flac files or am I going to have to move / delete all the mp3s? Thanks for the help!
Hi,
I am having the very same issue as you. Too bad Plex is not able to differentiate both formats.
In an ideal world, it should even be able to stream my FLAC file while streaming at home, and to stream the MP3 on mobile networks.
I add my voice to this (slow growing) chorus. I have many mp3s that are copies of flac files with identical tags. I’d like plex to just show one album, but play flac locally and mp3 remote (but just seeing one albums is the most important issue).
Thanks!
Only put the Flac file into Plex. Even the weakest server should be fast enough to transcode it on the fly for remote access.
With the new players for Android and iOS this will be even the sonically superior Opus format and not mp3.
