Owner of multiple Pi4s here, I would absolutely love HW transcoding for Plex on my Pi4s.

Regarding ā€œusage metricsā€, it’s a chicken and egg thing. I used Plex on my pi4 for a little while but stopped SPECIFICALLY because it didn’t support HW transcoding.

Fully supporting the Raspberry Pi 4 would be wise, it has an unprecedented amount of support for a developer focused sbc. Announcing Pi4 HW transcoding support would literally bring people to Plex. Again, it would be a wise business decision.

+1 here as well

Just had my old ota slingbox die, thought I could replace it with rpi4 ($30 2g @ microcenter) + case/supply ($20) and use a Hauppauge usb tuner. Found that I could transcode 720p but not 1080p, even with the rpi overclocked to 2GHz and ram disk for transcode directory. Just spent $150 on Intel box to get hw transcoding. You won’t see my rpi in statistics because I can’t use it as is - chicken & egg as already mentioned. I should say direct play worked fine, but thats not an option for me when I’m out of the house on my cell phone.

Just sitting here following this thread because when Pi HW transcoding is supported I’ll be getting Plex Pass.

If you build it, we will come.
