Rasplex and Berryboot problems

I using the latest version of both (1.0.3 and berryboot-20160313-pi2-pi3.zip), though it happens with older versions too.

If using Rasplex with Berryboot certain videos won’t play, or sometimes will play after restarting one or more times. After a failed playback attempt Rasplex’s graphics will starting glitching out.

I saw someone else having this problem:

But the solution was to not use Berryboot.

Is there anyway to make Rasplex work correctly with Berryboot?

By coincidence, last night I fired up my Pi 2 with RasPlex (updated to 1.0.3) via Berryboot and experienced exactly as you describe.

Whilst changing a few RasPlex preferences to try and resolve I noticed that, when it glitches, if I go into audio output settings it says “Error…” instead of the usual setting of “HDMI” (can’t remember the exact wording since I’m currently away from home).

Sadly I didn’t find a solution yet. Would really like to keep Berryboot installed rather than have to keep switching SD cards.

I don’t suppose you have any insight @dlanor ? I’ve read some interesting posts by you about Berryboot…

Well, I don’t know about ‘insight’ into your problem, since I’m not having that problem at all.
But then again, I have not updated to the latest version of BerryBoot, so that could be a factor.
I believe the BerryBoot version I’m using was last updated in February this year (could be early March).
I just tested RasPlex 1.0.3 under this BerryBoot again just a moment ago, and it worked fine.

But when I went into the BerryBoot OS installer menu to check some things, a popup dialog prompted me to upgrade to the latest BerryBoot version, which I declined (keeping your problems in mind).
An interesting detail about that prompt is that it mentioned this upgrade as being for the RPi3, which raises the possibility of some lost compatibility to the earlier models.

Another possible factor is that I’m not running the various OS installed under BerryBoot from an SD card.
The SD card is used only for the BerryBoot boot files. The BerryBoot runtime libs and the various installed OS and their data are all stored on a “WD PiDrive” 1TB harddisk, connected to one of the RPi2 USB ports. This shouldn’t affect the functionality of RasPlex though, so I mention it just for completeness.

Having read about your problems I’m rather reluctant to upgrade my RPi2 BerryBoot to that new version, as I strongly suspect that I too would then get the same issues you guys are seeing.

In your place I’d make another installation of an older BerryBoot version on another SD card, and then install RasPlex 1.0.3 on this in order to verify if the problem is caused by the new BerryBoot version, like I suspect. I may even make an experiment myself a bit later, though I’m busy with other stuff right now.

My own experiment would of course be to install on an SD card, and upgrade that installation to the latest BerryBoot version, to see if this triggers any problems similar to what you have.

Best regards: dlanor

I have exactly the same problem with my Pi3. Anybody found a solution ? Is it bug from RasPlex or BerryBoot.

Issue is Berryboot, we update our firmware and kernel faster than they do.
