Recommend Content to Friends and View Syncing

If you and your friends are sharing each others libraries with one another it would be nice to be able to have a feature that allows you to recommend content to each other and each have a library section for content that has been recommended by one another.

Example: I watch a film and I really like it and I think so too would my mother so when I am done watching the film I open a context menu on my plex host app that allows me to recommend that movie to one of the friends whom I share that library section with and choose my mothers plex username

My mother sits down at her TV and opens Plex on her Roku and there’s either a notification that (“my username” has recommended the film “such and such”, would you like to watch now?) or even better, Plex could have a section on the home screen for “Recommended by Friends”

The amount of friends and family whom now host plex servers has really grown for me and I imagine I am not alone. Getting on the phone or typing out a text message to multiple friends or family that they should totally check out this thing I just watched is cumbersome not to mention easy to forget about after reading but if there were a section for those recommendations then that wouldn’t happen and you wouldn’t have to keep bothering your friend or family member regarding whether or not they watched something yet. That makes me think, perhaps a notification can be sent to the person who made the recommendation that (“so and so” has accepted your recommendation to watch/listen to “so and so”)

Since people are now connected through Plex on such a large scale these days would it not be beneficial to begin to put some focus on social features such as this? One of my favorite things I ever came across regarding plex on this topic was something a 3rd party roku app developer had developed. I do not remember the name of the Plex channel but it had this feature that allowed you and another friend to sync up to view a particular piece of content.

Say for instance you and your girlfriend are apart due to a business trip but would like to watch a movie together, with this feature you or your girlfriend could start playing the film and the other person would have a “now playing” section on their home screen that they could choose the film playing and “sync” with the other user. Viola!! You’re now watching a movie with your girlfriend who is away on a business trip!!

We live in an age of social media. I think it’s only appropriate for the God of MEDIA Servers “Plex” to push the envelope on the social MEDIA aspect of it’s platform!

I hope you’ll run with these ideas. I think it would continue in the tradition of Plex and take streaming to an entirely new level!

I have been scrolling through existing feature requests and this is the closest one so far to what I want. I understand recommend exists already, but I don’t want to have to add a movie I already watched to watch later, which I don’t use, so that I can access the recommend button.
A def would like a new row under on deck, newly added, etc, that would show the list of movies recommended, sorted by newest recommendations first.
If possible it would be great under the recommendation to show who recommended it, cuz lets be honest, some people’s recommendations may better align with yours.
For simplicity it may be as simple as adding a thumbs up or thumbs down icon on movie info screens. For that matter, maybe when your in a movie info screen it could show how many other users have watched it, and their rating (up/down) but I’m probably getting carried away.
Thank you!!

There are existing requests for both of these features. Rather than splitting votes across several threads, please add your vote by clicking ‘Like’ on the original message in those threads:

Also, please note the rules for feature requests - in particular, one request per thread. It makes voting simpler.

appreciated, thanks!
