Recommend me a NAS server

Hi everyone, sorry to ask this as I suspect is been asked before but I am completely non technical and so struggle to follow historical threads.

I have some clear requirements which should make choice easy for someone who knows!

Looking to spend no more than £3k all in though.

I need a 1U NAS with no more than 4 bays.

I would like SFP+

I am a Plex lifetime subscriber

I have some 4K video but is likely to increase.

Clients are a mix of local 4K TVs and iPad/iPhones.

Internet connection is Fttp (950mb) (not sure if relevant!)

Transcoding is my concern so I’m afraid what to buy to make sure I can use hardware transcoding.

I’m only looking at synology and qnap so far but have no loyalty.

Plex will be the only thing running on the machine

Can anyone help please?

Start by having a look at this document

It lists all the NAS units and which ones can do what thing (eg: 4k and transcoding etc). Come back with questions after having a look.

Internet up speed is relevant if you want to share Plex with your friends - I think that speed you quoted (I assume mbps) means you are on a full-fibre (gigabit) connection, but check your up speed. You can do this simply by going to https://speedtest.net from your browser (whilst on your home network).

You will need to be a little more specific about both your media format and which (smart?) TV’s you have if you want to find out if Plex needs to transcode to them or not.,
