Just putting in my 2 cents… the recommended function is not really usable if it can only function from the Watch Later or Recommended lists… I mean, hell, if I could get it into Recommended easily, we wouldn’t be here, right? It’s there, just expand it so it can be done on any of the right click or menu buttons.
Basically the workflow needs to be as follows:
- Navigate to the piece of media/show/movie that I want to recommend to a friend.
- Hit the (currently not available) “Recommend” button.
- Select the friend I want to recommend this to from a drop down.
- The recommendation automagically appears in my friend’s “Recommendations” feed, where they can click it to play or delete the recommendation, whichever they choose.
Is this really so difficult to implement??

If it featured basically like the “Share” functionality on android or YouTube but with a list of users and then it would show up in their Recommendation section. Even better if it gave a YouTube like option where if you’re watching content and you hit a “Recommend” button in the controls it may ask if you want to share this content at this time in the media. Not sure why this is a complicated problem to solve. Anyway, love plex and would love this feature.
I’ve been dying for this feature. To have a curated Recommended page/section where I could periodically curate things for my users.
My users are often overwhelmed at the size of the library and have trouble finding new things.
I’ve resorted to making playlists for them on their accounts but even that’s not so clean.
PLEASE consider adding this feature. There’s clearly a large demand for it.

I need this, my folks don’t want to track though all my media on their TV ( its too much for them and makes Plex actually really hard to use) As stated above please can you add this feature (it drove me bonkers that I couldn’t see it but couldn’t use it - so else remove it!) big thanks…

should work like the share feature built into android
i give up. just REMOVE the 'Recommended" link from the side of the screen. You all obviously have no plans for it, but it takes up precious prime space on the screen. I’ve used Plex for over 3 years and this is my Recommendations after all those months.

This and sharing Playlists (kinda part) are some of the most replied Requests I’ve seen here.
For all who didn’t read everything and since the first post is a bit…lacking in explanation. Plex right now can’t recommend Stuff that is on Server. We can recommend Youtube Videos etc through Plex (I think that is kinda pointless, but just my opinion). We want the feature that you can recommend Movies/Music/TV-Series/Playlists/ to other People on the same Plex System.
There were different GUI’s propositions that came along as you read the thread, all have in common - I think - that you can send a message along a recommendation you are giving.
PS: would be nice if we could edit the first post. Because honestly it lacks 1) only one specific feature. 2) Detail and clarifications

Yes please! My movie library is insanely overwhelming and hard to find a good movie to watch. I would like ANY of the users who I have shared my server with, to be able to click “Recommend” after watching a movie, and have it show up under recommended for ALL the users Ive shared to server to. Please!

How the hell has this conversation gone on for over 4 years with no clear idea of what Plex is going to do?
Could someone from Plex please chime in here and let us know if this is EVER going to come?

Still waiting for this feature. With my Plex library growing, people are having hard time choosing content. Recommendation would help a lot. I had similar idea and made a thread. Instead of manually populating recommendations, I was thinking we could utilize user rating system (stars) and auto populate based on high number or stars. It’s not getting any traction and voting for this thread, but there are some mock ups.
I feel the rating system would be awesome, but I can understand the difficulty in coding that function. That doesn’t mean it shouldn’t be worked on and made into a function. I still feel the “choose your own recommendations” feature would be an easier and quicker addition. If the “rated recommendations” feature gets added, a settings function could allow you to select ‘Rated’ or ‘Chosen’ recommendations to be provided.
Regardless, this is a highly desired function.

I strongly disagree about your implementation.
You can t recommend the same stuff for everyone, as tastes differ and things like age etc is also a factor. The implementation for IOS they made seemed fine, so did the other Propositions in the tread.
ATM you can recommend videos in qeue from youtube etc. Most of us just want to be able to do that with actual server content.
The “choose your own” is the recommendations of the host. They can change the selections as desired. Going based on the End User preference has a large amount of difficulty, and for smaller libraries it’s not going to be very useful. This is why the rated recommendations is tough to code and implement, although for larger libraries it sounds like it would be pretty awesome.
By having the Server Host choose, it would be like going to a restaurant and seeing the current specials. They change based on the provider’s choice. without creating complicated algorithms, the coding and setup are much easier to implement.

I understood you.
But we have stars, that do show the general attitude of people on the server regarding specific content.
You want a different feature. A host specified recommendation feature, that is only editable by him. discussed so far here is something else.
That you as an (any) user can recommend specific content to a friend. Like the system that exists now, but also for server content and not only for youtubes videos etc.
