I have a large library and it is hard for some of my family who use my PLEX to navigate and find movies to watch. For various events, I’d like to be able to make a selection (that I pick) of films that I want all my users to see first, based on current events. Like holidays I can display films to do with each specific holiday, with the coronavirus outbreak, I’d kind of would like to maybe showcase all my pandemic films. Its Oscar season, what if we could display any of the films we have that won awards? There are often times I’d like to showcase a movie in the library to all the users but haven’t found a way to do this.
I have played with newsletter features in Tautulli, but it’s so much work with the HTML and graphic design for the email and then there is still no way to link to that movie in their plex so they still have to go find it. Most of the people who use my PLEX are family and are not tech comfortable and I’d like to be able to offer them relevant films within PLEX itself.
I have envisioned something like that for a while but the frequency with which I desired it as of late, has increased.
I have a workaround… not great but it works…
I created a collection My Choices and add and remove movie from it.
The hard part was creating a Poster that I like for It…
I’ve had my users ask it they could do the same. Oh so sorry…
Since you have to be admin to do this and I’m not going to get in to what happen with the DVR/TV fiasco… where I was everyone’s remote.
Of all the features that could be added to Plex, this is the one I have always wanted and would prefer to see implemented before any other. Seems that many others have wanted this for a number of years. It seems that the Devs are dead-set against it. I simply can’t imagine why that would be.
Thanks for the great idea! I used a 1 before the title in the sort order so as the collection will appear 1st, and in the description give the explanation for the choices. The one thing that would make this what I want is if we could place the collection in one of the home screen sections…
There are two workarounds currently, both very flawed
Choose the type of media you want to watch. Select your favorite movie/show from that type, and then choose “Related Movie/Shows” from that media’s page and pick something from there. This is a multi step process and gives a limited recommendation based on broad categories.
Install a 3rd party plugin that dynamically creates a new library based on trakt.tv ’s recommendations. The end result of this is similar to what I think Plex should implement in the end, but just without the need of installing 3rd party tools. This is achieved by syncing all media and watch status with a trakt.tv account via their API (https://github.com/trakt/Plex-Trakt-Scrobbler ). Once that is syncing with trakt you can use another tool to dynamically create a library based on trakt.tv ’s recommendation of what you should watch based on your previously watched media (https://github.com/adamgot/python-plexlibrary ). I have not been able to get this to work for multiple users, so a native Plex solution would be superior to this.
This feautre would be great! To suggest other users on you family content from your library over social network or instant message like whatsapp would be a very valuable feature for Plex. In my case my sister and older niece live in South Africa and I would use it a lot!!
Please add this feature!
With ‘Watch together’ being implemented now, this seems like a very, VERY useful addition that could make it even better. I Would love it if I could recommend stuff to my family with who I share my plex library.
It is now 2021 and still nothing?! It would have been good to have some sort of comment from Plex on this…considering people have been wanting it for the past 7 years!
Please add some ability to recommend or spotlight content on the Home Screen and discover pages.
If we want to spotlight or recommend a show, collection, or movie we should be able to. If we want to have a row for a less popular holiday we should be able to. If we want to have a row of just Collections we should be able to. I do not understand why Plex wants to act as a curator for local content. This shouldn’t be as locked down as it is.
While there’s no option to post to social media you can now create hubs on your home screen based on collections (smart collections based on filter criteria or manually curated ones).
This requires PMS 1.22.3 and Plex Web 4.56.3 (currently only available in the hosted web app) or Plex for Mac/Windows 1.31.0 – publishing collections to the home screen also requires a Plex Pass membership.
unfortunately it doesn’t. sharing to social was a nice to have, but sharing via Plex to other Plex accounts is really the killer feature.
ie, I added a film, and ‘John’ will like this. click recommend, and select all or individual users.
on ‘john’ library, there a section ‘recommended by xxx’
anyway, I very much doubt now anything like this will be implemented, even with such popularity on this.
