It would be awesome if the recommended section (or another UI) had more “categories” that were based on the contents of my server/users. Other streaming platforms are good at this except that I prefer Plex simply because it allows me to filter out options I would never consider.
Some examples that would be easy to add to the database (if they don’t exist already) and then expose to player clients:
- “Trending”: movies or TV played in the last 30 days; rolling window
- All Core Genres: today I get one or two genres and I have no idea how plex picks the ones to show me. There should be a ribbon for every high level genre permanently so I don’t have to scroll through my library.
- Seasonal: this might be covered by allowing custom collections instead, but this is a group of content that you immediately want when the time of year comes around and you have a few hundred movies to scan through.
- “For You”: it would be awesome if Plex had a share button in movies and TV libraries that let you recommend content to others on the same server. Ideally, it would automatically mark that unwatched in your account and there would be a ribbon for it. Then you could watch it or mark it watched to “check off” items in the list.
- More ribbons based on usage: Plex is definitely already doing this, but not enough. I love the directed by, starring, etc. Recommendations so there just needs to be more generated categories. Maybe the watch history doesn’t go far enough back? Maybe there’s a max number of ribbons? I WANT MOAR… pretty please?
Overall, my request is to make browsing for content the way I use Plex 90% of the time and searching my huge libraries the way I use it when I want to watch something specific.
You guys are awesome and I love everything you’re doing.
