@mjarends, thanks for getting back to me. I figured out the problem, its related to the Local Media Agent, which is sadly bugged. See this thread: http://forums.plex.tv/discussion/239066/local-media-agent-errors-when-paths-files-contained-non-ascii-characters/p1?new=1 for more info.
Is there any way to use your plugin ONLY to parse .summary files? I use a library on my plex server for educational / conference training sessions. Each video has a text file with it that has a shot summary. All i want is that summary to be pulled into plex. I donāt want the files turned into episodes or renamed because they are already named what they are. I just need a way to display each videoās text file in the description. You would think something so simple could be easily done!! Anyways, thanks for the work your doing. This will work well for home videos.
Unfortunately the portion of the metadata agent that reads and adds the summary information is very specific to the file naming conventions imposed by the plugin. You are welcome to take my source and tailor it to your needs though.
Hi,
Iām encountering some odd behavior with what I believe is the agent side of this plugin.

Recent season additions to the personal media library has shown the episodes āout of orderā in that the episodes in this particular season are always in this order (whatever order Plex has decided upon for a given season), on the web interface and the Android app (these are the two places I checked, I also noticed this in the Apple TV version).
This is the same season with the stock personal media shows agent:

I canāt seem to find the log files for this version of the Plex Server (OSX), else this would be attached. Sorry
@SimonSaysLPs Couple of questions first:
- Did you install both the Extended Personal Media Scanner and the Metadata Agent?
- Does your library have Scanner set to āExtended Personal Media Scannerā and Agent set to āExtended Personal Media Showsā.
If the answers to both questions is yes above then please provide the log and an example structure of folders/files that are not working. See the first post for more details on how/where to find the logs for OSX.
Likely related to the bug that seems to have been introduced with Plex Server v1.3.x that is affecting a lot of different media agent it seems right now. Going back to v1.2.7 will likely resolve the issue until Plex fixes the issue in v1.3.x.
@mjarends I can confirm that both the extended agent and scanner are installed and set for this particular library.
Here are:
Thanks in advance!
@slowmoe Interesting, thank you for letting me know. Iāll be attempting to downgrade tomorrow, just in case mjarends does find something out of the ordinary.
@SimonSaysLPs Thanks or the logs and examples. I looked through the logs and donāt see any issues. I can confirm what slowmoe has said above about the episode display order. I am seeing episodes out of order in the Plex web app on a library where I am using the Plex Series Scanner and TVDB agent. I think this is a Plex issue at this point in time.
@slowmoe Thanks for the heads up on the issue. I hadnāt noticed it until just now.

Do you have the bug report handy? Iām still seeing issues with the plugin on 1.3.3 (failing to retrieve local art). Indeed 1.2.7 still works well with the same directory.
(Edit: found it here https://forums.plex.tv/discussion/248406/bug-plex-v1-3-x-inc-1-3-3-isnt-showing-metadata-correctly-for-some-agents-logs-included#latest)
@mjarends Hey, I found a bug with Personal Media Shows Agent where it wouldnāt pick up .summary files and go into an infinite loop while traversing paths due to the bug with double / and never finding root directory.
This happens on freenas plex. Probably same issue happens on linux.
I fixed the bug on my end.
Is the source code on github can I make a pull request?
@m3ki The code is on BitBucket. Any fixes that you have would be much appreciated. Thanks!
@mjarends first off, thanks for this agent and scanner. itās been amazing with my music videos collection.
i was having organizational issues with making sure which summary files iād already completed, and which artwork iād provided within my library, so i made a small windows program to make filling in the missing info a lot easier. maybe a better web based app already exists (if so, someone please let me know!) but this has made it a breeze, and i think it could help others with their tv or other collections as well. iāve posted an explanation and download link here: https://www.reddit.com/r/PleX/comments/5ltqyv/metadata_completer_program_for_the_extended/
(im using my reddit username to post here even though iām a plex pass subscriber etc because my main plex login has some personal identifying info in it, i apologize if people reply to this and i dont see it right away, iām much more tied in to reddit)
@mjarends pull request made
@davidjoshualightman Thanks for the kind words and contributing back to the effort.
@m3ki Pull request has been incorporated. Thanks.
@davidjoshualightman Please share how you named your music videos?

Reddit - Dive into anything - there are photos in the reddit post that show the full directory name and file name.
Thanks for your Personal Meta Completer program. I use it for my personal home video collection. I noticed that I canāt update for example a background or poster once I have added it. Would be nice to be able to change the photos
Also I noticed that there are a few funny characters in the beginning of each summary file āā. It doesnāt seem to effect the presentation in Plex, but maybe you want to have a look at it. Again thanks for sharing this tool with us.
Does anyone have any advise as to how to install the Extended Personal Media Shows Agent and Scanner on a QNAP Plex Media Server?
I have found the Plex Media Server install directory no my NAS, as well as the /Library/Plex Media Server/Plug-ins directory within. I have copied the contents of the downloaded Agent and Scanner zip files to the Plug-ins dir. When I restarted the Plex server the contents of the bundles seem to have been installed (copies dirs/bundles are now empty) but I still donāt get the Extended Personal Media Shows agent/scanner as options for my Plex libraries.
Any help/direction will be greatly appreciated.
Thank you in advance.
I created a plex pass vote for plex to add these features by default if anyone wants to vote for it:
Thanks a ton for making this by the way.
1)I reproduced @Frank.Moll 's bug. When installing and configuring everything correctly on updated ubuntu the agent wonāt show the poster.png type photos out of the box for no clear reason, though anecdotal evidence suggests that this happened in a plex media server update in the last two months. The refresh all runs looking for cover images, and returns null so they stay in the default greyscale background. The work around I found for this, and I found it entirely accidentally, is that if you manually add a poster.png file and then hit refresh all, the refresh all begins to actually find the poster.png files. Also @Frank.Moll make sure you have the standard local media agent enabled as secondary to this one in sever settings->agents.
- I found what appears to be another bug. For certain media arrangements, the agent displays the shows out of order when show newest first is selected in the library settings as shown here https://i.imgur.com/Xgb6q3k.png . The specific folder that caused that is here: https://i.imgur.com/DbnjlFz.png . I apologize for the content, but it was the best example I had for replications and everything was thoroughly censored. Logs are here, the show it question was processed in log 4: http://www.filedropper.com/extendedlocalmediaagenterrorlogs
Please tell me if you need any more details about anything, thank you!
