There are no longer any options for this agent. They were removed a few releases back in favor of making the file name parsing more robust.
Hi!
I posted a question in the thread for the scanner some days ago.
I guess I should have posted it here instead. Anyway, here it is:
https://forums.plex.tv/topic/88982-rel-extended-personal-media-scanner/?p=766202
Wondering if someone can tell me what I'm doing wrong.
I setup a new TV SHOW library. I select PLEX SERIES SCANNER as the Scanner and EXTENDED PERSONAL MEDIA SHOWS as the agent.
I have my files setup like this
e:\Sports\NFL\2012\Week 01\files
I have multiple weeks and different years 2012-2014 thus far.
Files under Week 01 would look like this:
Week 01 - 2012-09-05_1 - Cowboys-Giants W01 2012.mp4
Week 01 - 2012-09-05_10 - Falcons-Chiefs W01 2012.mp4
Week 01 - 2012-09-05_11 - 49ers-Packers W01 2012.mp4
Week 01 - 2012-09-05_12 - Seahawks-Cardinals W01 2012.mp4
Week 01 - 2012-09-05_13 - Panthers-Buccaneers W01 2012.mp4
Week 01 - 2012-09-05_14 - Steelers-Broncos W01 2012.mp4
Week 01 - 2012-09-05_15 - Bengals-Raven W01 2012.mp4
Week 01 - 2012-09-05_16 - Chargers-Raiders W01 2012.mp4
Week 01 - 2012-09-05_2 - Colts-Bear W01 2012.mp4
Week 01 - 2012-09-05_3 - Jaguars-Viking W01 2012.mp4
Week 01 - 2012-09-05_4 - Bills-Jets W01 2012.mp4
Week 01 - 2012-09-05_5 - Dolphins-Texans W01 2012.mp4
Week 01 - 2012-09-05_6 - Patriots-Titans W01 2012.mp4
Week 01 - 2012-09-05_7 - Rams-Lions W01 2012.mp4
Week 01 - 2012-09-05_8 - Redskins-Saint W01 2012.mp4
Week 01 - 2012-09-05_9 - Eagles-Browns W01 2012.mp4
I've tried file names such as Week 01 - 2012-09-05_9 - EaglesAtBrowns.mp4 also thinking the hyphen in the name was tripping it up.
I've also tried without the _X following the date.
My basic problem is the "season" becomes "Season 2012" and not "Week 01" and all files names are the same.
Any suggestions?
cayars,
Please see the first entry in this thread that discusses how to setup this metadata agent. It is recommended that you use this metadata agent with the Extended Personal Media Scanner. The linked to post has instructions on how to set that scanner up. Additionally I would suggest recreating the entire library using the correct scanner instead of changing the settings on the existing library.
I have ExtendedPersonalMedia-Agent.bundle installed in the Plug-ins directory
I have plex-scanners installed in the scanners directory
This is a Windows 8.1 test machine and not my main Plex server so I can pretty much try/do anything.
If I try and add a new library using "Home Videos" I have these choices
Scanner:
Plex Movie Scanner
Plex Video Files Scanner
Agent:
Personal Media
Freebase
The Movie Database
If I try and add a new library using "TV Shows" I have these choices
Scanner:
Plex Series Scanner
Agent:
Personal Media Shows
TheTVDB
The Movie Database
Extended Personal Media Shows
I do not see Extended Personal Media Scanner. Any ideas where to look?
cayars - See the post I referenced above. You explicitly need to install the Extended Personal Media Scanner plugin. Once installed you will see an entry in the Scanner list for "Extended Personal Media Scanner".
I have looked at it many times. I'm not sure what you are asking me to do. This is what I have
C:\Users\cayars\AppData\Local\Plex Media Server\Scanners\plex-scanners\Series\Extended Personal Media Scanner.py
The zip file only had that one file in it nested a couple of directories deep.
After stopping and restarting the Plex server this Scanner does not show up. Is there something I'm missing?
Carlo
PS I appreciate the help!
Never mind I figured it out.
The zip file really has the wrong directory structure in it. It should start with "Series".
Now I'm off to try it.
I have it running but can't quite figure out how to get the results I want. My files are shown in message #143 above.
I've tried playing around with different file structures and naming conventions.
What I'd like to end up with is something like
2012
Week 01, Week 02, Week 03, Week 04, Week 05,etc
2013
Week 01, Week 02, Week 03, Week 04, Week 05,etc
2014
Week 01, Week 02, Week 03, Week 04, Week 05,etc
However, it seems to want to stack my results as
Week 01
Season 2012, Season 2013, Season 2014
Week 02
Season 2012, Season 2013, Season 2014
Week 03
Season 2012, Season 2013, Season 2014
I hope that's clear enough what I'm getting at. For example after going into the library I want to be able to select the year. Then be presented with the different Weeks.
Unfortunately that is a limitation of Plex TV Series (which is what this plugin uses). It only allows organizing shows up to one level and Plex always uses the label "Series". It does not allow you to create additional categories underneath a series. If you want your files organized like that you might want to go back to the Plex Series Scanner and use the folder view within Plex.
Hello, thank you for these awesome plugins! They've allowed me to clean up my tutorials section.
I do however have a problem, and it's probably something i've done. I've installed, both scanner and plugin and both have been selected on a fresh run of the Tutorials section. It pulls up everything fine, except the summary files. I've re edited the files into UTC-8 to see if it was that but no joy. I've scrolled through the plex log and it seams to have read them, it even looks to have set them. I can't see them on Plex(Web) though, nor on android. It also slows that specific library down after using the scanner and meta, I can't access them straight away, don't know if they eventually load up without me clicking but when I click on an episode it takes a few mins to load. Sometimes the thumbnails show, sometimes they only show in episode view :/ Weird little bugs, they suppose to happen? I think this is just it taking it's time putting adding it to my library, I'll update once It's fully updated.
Edit: The striked through part I've sorted. It was Transmorgify for plex chrome addon. Made the plex web interface go weird. Since removing it, I've deleted and re added the Tutorials library. First load of episodes on Plex(Web) and Android spin for a while then load, about 1 min. After that they seam to be fine.
I've included the log.
S1mpleman - I looked through the logs and it looks like the plugins are reading the information correctly. How many files are in your media section? I have never seen the plugin slow down a section but I don't use the summary feature all that much. Does the data show up in the web interface now? I have seen sometimes that the web interface caches data and doesn't show the latest information unless you do a full refresh.
Something went wrong when I was importing the plug-in, I've done a complete whipe and reinstall of everything and it's working as is now.
sorry to bother and thank you again for a great plugin!
Hmmm there is one strange thing happening. OnDeck, doesn't work right. Is it suppose to?
I've 18 episodes in 1 folder, the first 4 are marked as watched and it's showing episode 8 in OnDeck.
Any ideas?
Edit: I've since watched an episode from that folder and after the first OnDeck skipped from 8 to 13.
What are the file names in the directory? The plugin only populates information in Plex. All UI function is really outside of the scope of the plugin. The only thing I can think of is that possibly Plex is seeing all of your files as the same because of the way that they are named.

I have them named as follows.
Section/
Show/
Season 1/
S01E01 - Episode Name.mp4
Season 2/
S02E01 - Episode Name.mp4
Its a strange one like. Its not too much hassle I've disabled ondeck on that section for now. If there's any logs that would help let me know.
In Plex there named correctly and show up in the correct seasons. I've just added a season 2 to the same folder and on deck now says season 2 episode 50.#

S1mpleman, i noticed some of your posts and i too am trying to come up with a reasonable way to arrange my tutorials but I am not really seeing much difference. Although, the top folder IS getting named properly, i was hoping the subfolders names would get picked up and then also the episode names from the filename (ie S01E01- Tutorial File). Can you post a screenie of how you have yours setup? Ive tried a couple different naming methods. Thanks.

Hey theShacks,
Yeah my folder names for series don't get picked up if that's what you meant. I resorted to just naming them Series 1 and then putting the title in the album art for the season. My title names are been picked up from the file name fine, and I have them as you have them. Have you got both the Scanner and the Meta agent installed? Also I had some difficulty with it "editing" the changes I'd made to the file name, when performing a rescan. Everytime I tried a different naming structure I had to delete the library and re add it. Was a pain, but I eventually found one that works. Some screen shots below:

I'd also just add that if you having trouble with OnDeck, make sure the videos have the correct date. I used youtube-dl to scrape mine from Youtube which added that meta data for me, saved me some time just messed the OnDeck order up quite a bit. My videos we certainly not uploaded in any order to Youtube though ha. I could also pull the description this way and with a quick rename to .summary the scanner picked them up.
Feel free to PM me if you get stuck, managed to get my head round this scanner and it's a good one.
i thought i had selected both new plugs but apparently the 'Extended Personal Media Shows' wasnt selected. I re-selected the proper plugs and moved all folders out and rescanned then moved them back in and scanned again and now its not displaying anything :( i dont really want to name my chapters as seasons in my file structure. that would just screw me all up. I guess i will go back to the regular way and just manually edit everything. Dont understand why we cant just have a generic scanner that reads everything verbatim.Would be nice to have something like C01E01 (chapter 1, Episode 1). Ignorance is bliss i suppose. Thanks for the reply

The only other way would be naming your chapters as dates with this plugin. Sadly Plex doesn't allow changing the season name apart from that bit. I agree with you, I didn't want to do it to be honest. Not to bothered now I have as it works out fine like I said with the custom media, but yeah that's an annoyance in of itself. Plex only allows it to handle Seasons and Years so far as I know, until this change is made in Plex I doubt they'll be much else we could do.
