Remove Black Bars

Hi, I used to have this amazing application on LG TV called Playz. It did one thing that Plex doesn’t do on any platform and that is an option to remove black bars. This truly is an amazing feature.

How it worked was once you played a movie if it had black bars you could scroll right (next to play forward etc) and select a button that could remove black bars.

It is such a cool option and I really think we should have this integrated across all Plex applications. I share my Plex with multiple people and since the recent update Playz doesn’t work for me or any of them and we all miss it quite a bit. Please vote for this!

What this option usually does is simply ‘zooming in’ to the video.
Causing it to

  1. lose resolution
  2. cut content from the side of the picture

Normally, every tv has a button which does this.

So basically, all it did was remove the black bars not zoom into the video and it didn’t look stretched or anything it was so beautiful.

(This feature didn’t cut any of the picture from the side that’s what I’m asking for, it really would be a cool feature)

This is impossible. Either you ‘zoom’ into the picture or you ‘stretch’ it.

@OttoKerner

I know I used to think so too but on the LG TV there used to be an app called Playz someone created it when Plex wasnt available on LG TV’s but he added an option in that zoomed only the black bars. It literally removed it in 1 second. It’s like a stretch
. I’ve attached a picture to show a standard windows player doing it, tell me what you think please

It is very obvious that the left picture is simply ‘stretched’ vertically. So all people now have ‘egg heads’.

@OttoKerner I wouldn’t have requested this but my cousin used to say the same thing and works in IFE content they crop movies all the time since then he’s implemented this feature on so many planes and it’s been widely received as a really positive feature.

I understand exactly when you’re saying but I share my plex account with family members and they all used to love this feature when they had Playz. Wouldn’t it be nice to have this as an option? The next time you watch a movie with the black bars you might just notice it a bit more then normal, I notice it so much on Plex and I wish they had the options to stretch.

I think this is just a matter of habituation. Whenever I see cinema movies which fill my screen, I recognise the loss of pixels caused by that.
Even worse when the content is stretched. I notice it instantly and it bothers me very much

No this would not be a nice option. No one wants stretched faces. You’re distorting the directors vision and it looks dumb.

@OttoKerner Yeah I agree I do think its a matter of habituation, I really thought more people would have wanted this and would have voted this up but hey :stuck_out_tongue:

You should be able to just set the zoom using your TV. Most TVs have zoom options.

I am interested in a Zoom to Fill (cropping) feature. I have both high definition home videos and movies that appear more aesthetically pleasing when filling the screen. I understand that this is a subjective topic but this is something I’m missing from both the Roku and Web browser that is available on the retiring Windows app UI. I don’t see a problem with just having the option.
