I wish there was some way to visually identify titles in my libraries with additional audio tracks. A small icon of some sort, similar to the orange “unwatched” dot on the poster would be great.
I’ve considered going through my posters and doing it myself, but the amount of titles as well as the varying dimensions of the poster in combination with my ■■■■ retentiveness that everything match would turn that into a bit of a task.
And taking it one step further, rather than tie it to specific meanings, being able to add X number of colored indicators on the poster meaning whatever you want them to mean would be great.
I currently put “(4x3)” in the title of movies filmed in that aspect ratio, but I can’t always see it due to the restriction in characters shown. I put “Commentary by…” in the description when I think of it, but that doesn’t help if I’m actively looking for something with a commentary.
There exists a still open feature request for this.
Some steps have been taken in the meantime to achieve this, but the clients still don’t display the title of the streams.
I think you jumbled some words around and got hung up on “title.” I’m not talking about the title of audio streams. I don’t mind guessing which track to select for commentaries. I don’t think your link has anything to do with what I’m talking about unless I’m misunderstanding something. Hopefully the ‘Answered’ tags doesn’t really mean anything.
Sometimes, I’d like to play a movie or show with a commentary track, but have no idea which of my movies or shows have them. It’d be nice to be able to check a box, or something, that adds some sort of visual notification that the title contains an additional audio track. Much like the orange “unwatched” dot that appears, this could be a dot placed somewhere out of the way, too.
…and if functionality of that sort was to be added, it would probably be worth just leaving it’s meaning open… and maybe even having a few giving the user an option to determine their meaning for different things. if I could browse through my library and see blue dots or blocks on the bottom corner of some titles, I’d know that those titles have audio commentary tracks. And then maybe I could add an additional red one to indicate that they’re 4x3 titles. Just having them as selectable options, though, would let the user determine their meaning.

There is no way to find out or filter for this kind of information within Plex.
There is a workaround, but you need a computer and a spreadsheet application: Plex2CSV exports virtually any metadata within a Plex library into a text file. Among these are also the number of audio and subtitle streams, their codec, bitrate and their ‘title’.
If you filter for ‘commentary’ in these title tags, you get a nice list.

A kind of color marking like in some email or task management software. Or a universal tag to use as filter criterium. Would be a neat idea.
It might overlap a bit with the ‘collections’ feature. If you don’t care for ‘collections’, you could utilize them for your purposes. Assign a category ‘commentary’ to all movies which do have a commentary track.
You could use this at least as a workaround until something better is implemented.
And that’s why I included the ‘advice/input’ in the title! I actually use collections quite a bit, but my brain was stuck in a ‘character/movie series’ mindset in regards to them. Great suggestion! Thanks!
A little note for anyone interested in this thread and going for the “Collections” solution.
It doesn’t work for television shows as, except for “Writer” and “Director,” you can’t add tags for individual episodes.
I’m toyed with the idea of adding “Commentary” as a writer, but “Writer” isn’t a filter or searchable in Plex.
The tag idea still works for Movies, though, but this is a bit of a bummer. Personally, I might play around with standardizing my poster sizes and going with a transparent overlay with a visual indicator of some kind.
