Working on a plugin to stream live video through a channel. From what i understand is that PMS doesnt support live stream transcoding(unless it’s the desktop client).
Is there a workaround for this? Or how are other people streaming their live video?
Is there another format other than RTMP i should be trying that can be natively streamed live on a firestick or ios?
More and more players/clients support HLS format now. I know Roku does and I think FireTV and iOS do as well. Only PHT can handle RTMP live.
The RTUSA channel uses a simple HLS live feed and is available through the Channel Directory, if you want to test it on some clients.
Also Plex can transcode HLS and eHLS on-demand media (but not live feeds), but many players have not been updated to allow Plex to transcode them.
I’m working on some lite middleware in python to support better transcoding of HD Homerun strictly using FFMPEG and python. At the very least, the concept may prove useful in your implementation.
