Running PLEX from QNAP NAS?

Hey guys, got my PLEX library on QNAP TS-251+. Also got Plex Media Server as an APP on the NAS. Can I just run PLEX from within the NAS and access files from my TV without having to have a laptop on and running media server on it? Thanks for any help you can give. G

You can.
Just keep in mind this will be a new server, unless you’re willing to do a cross-platform migration of your current setup.

On a more critical matter… NAS aren’t usually on-par with same-generation PC or server hardware. You might want to check the capabilities of your NAS when it comes to your streaming/transcoding needs .A NAS that’s capable to use he-accelerated transcoding can compensate some of that… however this feature requires a Plex Pass membership.

Yes you can run Plex on your NAS, and search on your TV for the Plex (possibly by entering ip adres of your nas with port 32400)

thanks for that - I add my IP and port 32400 in manual servers within the Plex App on my tv. It reports as the IP address is unavailable. Is there something silly I am not doing on the app or in plex media server running on the NAS itself? thanks again for all the help

I don’t know what you TV apps look like, but I would suggest you hook a laptop on the UTP cable where your TV is connected, and on your laptop to see if you can ping your NAS… You don’t have to do anything on Plex on your nas. But make sure your NAS is "pingable"from elsewhere on your local network.
