Searching for media on nvidia Sheild TV with remote audio /mic button?

Hello,

My media is on my windows machine running version 1.30.2.6563. I never really played with my shield remote before but I decided to press the audio/mic function on the remote and said “play hunt for red october” . It found several sources including amazon but didn’t list plex. I went to the search function in plex and highlighted the mic button and pressed enter - it says record audio permission is required.

Is there a way to specifically play movies or TV shows using the shield audio /mic button? E.g. press the mic button on the remote and say “play hunt from red october on plex?”

Hmmm. I can search within Plex for an item, but I must use Plex’s own search bar. When I click Plex’s search, it asks me to talk, then it turns my words into text that then get searched. Make sure you give the Plex app Microphone permissions in the OS settings.

I haven’t tried using the Nvidia Shield’s own search function, to see if it can look within Plex though.

The global search on Android TV does AFAIR only search through Plex’s ad-supported content.
To search through your private server’s content would require disclosing it to Google.

Thanks - I’m doing something wrong. Could someone spoon feed it to me?

I went to android, settings, apps, plex, permissions and enabled the mic and media.

I go into plex, search, highlight the mic, press the button on the remote - I say Play Hunt for Red October, it still only gives me play on Amazon Prime, play on google movies, Install Philo.

Is it the words I’m using or is it some setting I haven’t changed yet?

No, you don’t. It’s simply not possible.

Thanks - I misunderstood - I thought it could work. I wish you worked with a hardware vendor like Oppo that would make streamer hardware that lookes like HT equipment but performs with the flexibility of an open computer.

After you click on the microphone button on the search screen within Plex, you just speak into the remote. Don’t use the microphone button on the remote, which is for Shield-centric use outside of Plex.

It says it can’t hear me unless I use that.

Odd, it works for me. As soon as I click on search in Plex, the voice-to-text search starts up immediately. Do not press the button on the remote. As bob says, that is only used by the base Android/Shield OS to do their search. You can recognize the Shield search by the colorful dots that appear in the screen overlay.

I’ll have to give it a try in my system, see if there is an obvious setting somewhere to enable the voice search using Plex.

Thanks - so I figured out what I was doing wrong. When I highlight the mic icon in the plex search and press enter on the flirc remote - it doesn’t seem to listen. If I use the nvidial shield remote and press enter when in the plex search and the icon is highlighted it does seem to listen. I can’t explain why it is different when enter lets me select things using the flirc.

I can say though that if the mic on the remote could be made the plex search I’d use that feature every day! I realize it can’t but that would be amazing!
