Send server messages

This has over 600 replies and 1122 votes, how is this not being worked on Plex?

This should be a simple thing to implement since clients communicate with plex.tv to get server information.
Implement it with the caveat that manually added / local servers won’t show the message.

Just dropping by to make my yearly comment and to let Plex know we still care about this feature

I’m with him. Yup, would love to send a server message. Mine is a step further, as I’d love to embed a URL or even image.

Why? So I can thumbnail a screenshot of my doorbell when someone rings it. Whether its an apartment with a door cam or the entrance to a mansion and you’re in the theatre, if I’m watching Reacher I want to see its Pizza and not some psycho at my door.

Or just to tell my shared users I’m adding more storage and to go touch grass for a few hours.

Cheers.

Feature Request:

Plex Notice Board
Plex Server Information Section

Reason for request:
I have always wanted a way to inform and supply information the Accounts that has my Library Access.

Example:
Plex Server will be offline for Maintenance
Plex Server does not have all data or content related to a show working on it!
Please donate here XD

This would be cool.

Please “Plex Master” Make this happen Almost 13 Years later i know you can get it done by end of this year. :star_struck:

As the name implies, would be nice to have a cloud-based (hosted by Plex itself) feature that can display a custom message when the clients cannot contact my server. So the idea is, I am about to take my server down, people may or may not be streaming from my server. I would like to go to my Plex Server settings and enable “Maintenance Mode”. This will prevent any new users from start a new stream and my server will respond to their clients with my custom message, which could be something like “Server is in Maintenance Mode” or whatever I choose. I can wait until any current streamers finish watching their stream, or I can be a jerk and cut them off by stopping their stream, so that’s my choice.

However, once my server goes offline, the Plex cloud, can take over the duties of sending my custom message to the clients. Doesn’t have to be a fancy graphics or anything like that. Simply a text message on their client screens indicating that they are unable to contact my server and displaying the custom message I programmed earlier.

Once my server is back online, my server can resume displaying the custom message to the clients until I go to my settings and turn off Maintenance Mode.

This way, no matter what my server status is, clients will receive a consistent message. This can be made available for those who pay Plex Pass only.

How exactly would this work if your server is offline? I think the best approach is to have the Plex cloud, which already has the infrastructure to do it, to display a custom message to the clients trying to access your offline server.

The idea would be, I go into my Plex server settings and enable Maintenance Mode. At that time, my server instructs the Plex.tv cloud infrastructure that no new connections are allowed and display my custom message to clients, basically intercepting the connection from the clients to my server. People may or may not be streaming from my server at that time, but when I enable Maintenance Mode no new streams are allowed, but existing ones will continue until they finish, or until I choose to stop them. When enabling Maintenance Mode, I have the option to enter a custom message that clients will see if they attempt to access my server.

Once my server goes offline, there is no way for my custom message to be served to clients, so this is where the Plex.tv cloud infrastructure would need to assist. The custom message would be hosted in my Plex account in the cloud and if any clients try to access my server, they will receive a simple text message written by me. This will stay active until I go to my Plex account and disable it.

Do you remember the “Default to Max Quality” thread? It had been around for over 10 years, had many more votes and replies…

It’s also been explained further up in the thread by a Plex employee that they are working on it, and it’s not so simple to implement as you claim.

Good morning.

First, let me thank you for all the great things you think of and implement into the Plex Sever. I never regret taking the chance 10 years ago to create my digital library with Plex.

Secondly, in recent years, since my friend/viewing base has become larger, I have wanted there to be a way to display a greeting or alert to the Home section of the interface. A simple banner or limited text field for a custom Welcome Message, an alert that the server will be off during vacation, etc. It could be useful in so many situations.

I’ve seen a couple of other tickets suggesting this, but they have been closed for a while. Not sure where the suggestion stands.

Thanks for your time.

Commenting here again since this would have been a far better tool to use to notify Plex users about the most recent security breach as opposed to spending a week notifying us by email. I shouldn’t be reading about Plex breaches from Google News before I hear about it from Plex themselves being a server admin.

All could have been avoided by simply putting a banner/marque message for users to see in the apps and WebUI.
