Noobee on this process of getting an apk file on to my Co-Star. I am able to ftp using chrome from my desktop into the device, traverse to folder downloads.
1) As practice for moving any file via ftp, I tried to copy/ paste a file from a folder on my pc to the Co-Star. That didn't work. It made a duplicate copy file in the original pc folder. I am not familiar with using browser based ftp. I am familiar with ftp clients.
Edit> Solved FTP access issue by doing some more research on how to use browser based ftp access. I can now transfer and then install apks.
2) When I click the lnik from Github to get the v0.11.0 apk file, a zip file downloads. I could not find an apk in any of the folders of the zip. Do I need to create the .apk file somehow?
Edit> Solved. All one needs to do is rename the .zip file to .apk extension. It installed! You might want to mention this somewhere on your wiki.
Need some help on #2. I want to check out what you are doing with Serenity and provide some testing.

Not sure why it downloaded as a ZIP file for you. I just tried the link and it downloaded as an APK.
Anyways, I'm shooting for a 1.0.0 Beta in a couple of weeks. I know Music and Photo viewing is missing as well as Channels (which I may or may not support directly from the Plex Channel plugins), but video should be working fairly well now. If you run into problems let me know.
In case anybody is interested. I recorded a demo for the 1.0.0-Beta1 version that is in development and hopefully will be available in a couple of weeks. Only video/tv show library support will be available when serenity is released. I do plan music and photo support for future versions. Transcoding support will not be included in 1.0.0 when it is released for a variety of reasons. In most cases the use of an external player eliminates the need for it though.
Looking at the github wiki doc it sounds as though this app supports passthrough to a reciever. What devices has that been tested on? It doesn't appear to work with my Sony device.
It is being used on Sony's, Revue, Costar, Pulse, LG TV, Nexus 7, and a few others. It basically supports whatever your device supports in the ways of codecs. If the codec doesn't do the pass thru then it won't pass thru. For the Vizio Costar that is the only way AC3 is handled is thru HDMI pass thru.
The app is at the mercy of the codecs on your device. You can also choose the external player option, and it will launch whatever external players you have on the device. It has been tested with ViMu and aVia Media players on the Google TV.
I just bought the app, it installed fine on my Vizio CoStar, but it won't go beyond the settings page. I entered the ip manually as instructed in the forum and also made sure DLNA was enabled, but it still reverts to the Settings menu. I am not trying to access it remotely, just on my home network via the PMS. The regular Google TV Plex App is working fine. What do I do from here. ?
Version 1.0.3 is rolling out the play store. Minor bug fix release.
Version 1.1.0 is starting development later this week. We'll see if we can get native subtitle support working on Tablets and Google TV without needing to transcode.
On my Sony NSZ-GS7 when you filter by recently aired you only get episode names without knowing what show it is. Had to reboot my Sony after installing it as it kept trying to load content and never found any. It finally did pick up my specified server.
It would be nice to be able to edit which menu titles pear in the Confluence type home page. The ability to hide Music for example.
Most of the titles currently come from the Plex Media server and what you named the movie and tv show libraries. As things go forward with the app, there will be a configuration option to control what menus show up in the app. It won't happen during the 1.1.0 release but will when we start adding Music and Photo library support as well as Internet Netcast streaming support.
Unfortunately on the Recently Aired, what plex returns us is just the Episode, it does return a pointer back to the parent show, but currently Plex's API doesn't combine this in a nice convienent API to get this information, it is another call to the server to just get the show information, and I try to limit the number of calls just to make sure the app stays responsive.
Update: It looks like Recently Aired does have the GrandParentTitle attribute, so I can grab the information from there. I'll target this for the 1.1.0 release which is targeted for next month.
1.1.0-M2 which should be available next week, should have subtitle support at least for those External players that support it. I'll try and get it working for the internal player as well.
Any of the Mx series are development/beta versions for testing, so keep an eye on the thread, I'll let you know when it is available.
External subtitles are not yet supported. Version 1.1.0-M2 scheduled for next week will support subtitles with external players, but probably only with MX Player to begin with as it provides the necessary Intent api for me to pass it the information.
Ahh ok sorry. And M2 support subs with external and internal player? I really like the internal. I have movies with high birate and my Imito mx2 run very smoth with the internal.
I have only one suggestion. Maybe with others skins, not xbmc skins the program have more personality.
Serenity is too good for copy skins of others programs.
Very very sorry for my bad english again, and thanks.
The project is open source, and even though people think it copies XBMC skins, the XBMC skins actually take elements from other skins from other Home Theater PC systems like Windows Media Center, myHTPC, Sage TV, Meedio, GBPVR, and others. XBMC just popularized the current look. So while people compare Serenity to the visually inspired skins from XBMC, it isn't an exact copy.
Again though if you have mockups of a new skin I'm open to implementing something and having the community help contribute to the project.
