So this started a couple months ago and is sort of a complicated issue. I have the synology DS 412+. It seems like more and more of the media we are watching is encoded in HEVC and H.265 which the NAS can’t seem to direct stream and tries to transcode. Obviously, it doesn’t have the juice to do this on the fly, resulting in unwatchable stutters and buffering screens. The network interface is fine, as netflix etc stream in 1080p at 5mbps+. Even when I try to do “force direct stream” there are issues.
My questions is this - Are there any NAS / Synology Plex servers aside from a PC that can transode / stream this content? IS there any way to transcode this material in advance (on the NAS) automatically in advance of watching it so I’m not dealing with this every night? It used to be only a couple of random videos but now it seems like everything is going this way. It’s incredibly frustrating.
What do you folks recommend as the best plex streamer / server? I love the DS download (DS Get) functionality of being able to set up a download via iphone or ipad and dont know of anything comparable on PC.
