Monterey and VPN split tunneling are not good Friends at present as Apple made some changes from Big Sur. I believe a fix is in the pipeline, hopefully in 12.2
I deleted my entire Plex library as I noticed it was taking up about 250GB of disk space. Doesn’t seem right as the movies are stored on a totally different disk. So I reinstalled the Plex server and recreated each library from scratch.
Hopefully this resolves the issue with the server shutting itself down almost every day. I’ll repost on this thread if I continue to have issues.
Yes, this is activated. I imagine that if this is deactivated, then all of the videos would show up as a blank thumbnail. I like to see a video thumbnail. I didn’t think the thumbnails would be that large. My library was consuming 200GB on my system drive and that’s just the Plex Media Library. My actual videos are stored on a separate external drive so I wasn’t expecting the library metadata to be 200GB. .
Once the library scan is complete, I’ll take a look again at the Plex Media Library to see how much disk space is being consumed as a comparison since this will be a fresh scan after reinstalling everything.
After deleting my entire Plex Media Server, preferences and libraries then reinstalling, the disk consumption went from 200GB down to 6GB. It’s a mystery to me as to why the Plex Media Server in Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server had grown so large.
I kept the thumbnail generation active with the reinstallation.
Hopefully this cleanup will resolve the random server shutdown that I’ve been experiencing for months. If not, I’ll report this back here.
My Plex server has run without stop since I did a complete reinstall and rebuilt my libraries. I had deleted the Plex software, preferences, libraries,… and reinstall everything again including rebuilding my libraries one at a time.
I’m very pleased that it’s working fine although baffled as to why the server was shutting down every day at random before I did this. At this point, I’ll never know although it’s wonderful that the server is now functioning properly.
