Over the years, after the plethora of content I’ve curated, my family and I watch more and more Plex streaming media. In the meantime, when severe weather hits, the only way we typically notice is if we’re watching local stations, or happen to be on our phones when an alert passes thru. I think it would be beneficial if we were given the feature and opportunity to configure our server (or streaming device) with our current location, and we can receive tickers with weather alerts regarding severe weather (watches, warnings, etc). I think this would be incredibly beneficial for those whom especially watch nothing but streaming content. On top of that, if you gave users the choice to enable or disable it, configure how the ticker behaves (transparent/translucent/opaque, top bottom, how big the ticker is, etc), it would prove to be a fantastic addition.
There’s been a number of requests to include weather information over the years. Ranging from a mere weather status to support for actual alerts. Those have been consolidated into this one in the past (though that one doesn’t specifically mention severe weather alerts):
Personally I believe, apps should stick to their purpose and not try to be something they aren’t. That’s why there’s already dedicated warning/alert channels – be it as apps or via other means.
That being said… if you feel this is important to you, I suggest to comment/vote in that other thread to avoid distracting/dispersing the little support this topic had gotten over the years (avoiding further duplicates).
Tom, I spent a considerable amount of time today looking for something similar, and did not find anything. This request is drastically different than weather apps and channels. This is akin to watching local television and getting severe weather alerts. The alerts were introduced to television viewers to help keep viewers safe in a potentially adverse weather event. Nobody else has introduced a similar feature request.
I don’t know about you, but when I am watching media, I immerse myself away from distractions. I miss every single significant weather alert and I would use this feature extensively.
Thereby, this is not a duplicate.

I think OP does have a unique feature request. I’ve read both posts, and the other seems to be about an overlay for the client navigation, and just whatever the current weather happens to be.
I believe OP (if I’m reading it correctly) is looking for more of an emergency alert overlay that would briefly scroll across the movie/show you’re watching as a heads up. I know this has been implemented with local live tv already. The national weather service has an API, I think the tricky part would just be pulling that data, having plex transcode it into a video stream with transparency, and then layer it on top of the video.
Something like this:
If I’m understanding the request correctly. I think this would be a greatly beneficial feature that could potentially save people’s lives. I also tend to put my phone on silent when watching a movie, but if there was a fire or tornado heading my way, I probably wouldn’t know until it was too late.
My humble opinion: While this could be a “nice” feature - the effort to implement it (complete with location awareness) would require time that I feel could be spent developing features much more in line with the purpose of this app - enjoying our media. There are already services in place that provide and alert system and I believe that at least on the iPhone emergency alerts happen even if your phone is on silent or do not disturb.
Features like Plex Arcade? I think they should understand their wheelhouse rather than overreach as they have been. This feature would be much more in line with what they are doing. This feature would easily allow us to continue enjoying the app, and I would no longer discover we are in an adverse weather event while being immersed in my movie or show, only to have my power shut off.
Also, I’m not in the Apple ecosystem and utterly refuse to switch, for a variety of reasons.
