Show Music Collections in PlexAmp // Mod: Track collections

Hi! I use Plex for quit long now, but just started to put music in it. I discovered the really great app that is PlexAmp. I just miss one feature. As I share my Plex Server with several friends and family, I was looking for a way to create and share Playlist easily with them. There are no such things as “public” and “private” playlist. As of now, the music experience in Plex is mostly design for “one user” utilisation. So the closest I found is the Collections. The collection are server-wide, so perfect! But sadly they are not shown it the PlexAmp app!

Please show Music Collections in PlexAmp!

As a side note, maybe you can make more easy to “like” a track. The notation system is quite confusing when you come from Spotify. In Spotify you can just like a song and it’s added to your liked songs kind of playlist. Also, add the ability to like, or rate, a playlist and a collection. That way we could find more easily what we love amongst the server tracks.

there are both playlists and collections, In the android app, playlists and collections can both be found in the second icon at the bottom that looks like a little musical note. I honestly find the Stations more fun for myself.

I would manage all of this from web though.

Thanks a lot for the quick answer.

I can’t see it though.

oh, you’re right. i thought i’d seen them in there. sorry.

You can currently see in Plexamp collections made of artists and collections made of albums.
Collections made of single tracks you currently cannot see.
You should use playlists for that.

You can switch plexamp to the “like/dislike/don’t care” rating mode in its preferences.
A smart playlist which only includes tracks with stars is easily made. In fact, one such playlist is automatically created for you when you install Plexamp.

Thank you for the reply! The only “problem” with making playlist is that are only for me. If want to make playlist for every user I have, it’s quite complicated to share them one by one, user by user. And even if I could do that, then my users would be flooded in bunch of playlist the not necessarily want.

The best part of Spotify in my opinion, is the ability to search for playlist and if you find one that you want, you take it in “your music”. Same for track, album and artist.

I just feel like in Plex and Plexamp, everything in the server is considered as “your music”.

I’ll look for the parameter to simplify the rating, thanks a lot for the tips :+1:

You can actually access track collections through Plexamp’s search. Just mentioning (while Otto’s points from above are still valid/true)

It so pretty odd that collections are limited to artists and albums while you can create track collections within Plex. To me it sounds pretty arbitrary to lock out on part of the experience on one interface (Plexamp) while enabling it on another (Plex). Especially because artist and album collections are shown within Plexamp. And yes, it is true that you can find these collections through search, like @tom80H mentions, but to me this is pretty unintuitive.

For me the crux is that collections are readily available for all my users on my Plex server, while playlists aren’t. And I would really love to make an end-of-the-year collection for me and my user(s).

I just posted a similar problem and @tom80H solution works very well but still feels “wrong”

I was able to find my collection and make it appear on the home screen, but the controls you would expect to find for shuffling and things like that don’t appear. Finding it via search resolves that difficulty but not being able to see ALL your collections within the Plexamp interface is definitely unexpected.

Plexamp 4.9.4 has officially added support for track collections.

Added

  • Support for track collections.

I’m therefore considering this suggestion to be implemented.
