I'm in the process of moving my PMS from a fairly underpowered HP Microserver to a Xeon E3, both running FreeNAS 9.3.
Everything was working fine on the HP box, with a PMS jail and PlexConnect jail and connecting from my aTV3 was generally problem free. Playing HD content was slightly more problematic, as the HP box didn't do a great job transcoding.
Anyway, I've recreated everything on the new machine so have a PMS jail and PlexConnect jail (all with different IP addresses but still within the same range 192.168.x.x) and I've pointed my aTV to the new PlexConnect, which worked fine, but I was surprised to see the new PMS server name appearing beneath the old one (and it's shared content), which is what PlexConnect is still pointing at.
Now I've transferred across some of my content and rebuilt the libraries, I was kind of expecting them to appear below the new PMS heading, but I'm still just seeing the name and none of the shared content.
I thought I'd point PlexConnect to the new PMS jail, and when i checked on the aTV was surprised to see nothing changed in that the old PMS server is still listed first (followed by the shared content) and then the new one is listed below (but with no shared content)
Don't understand how it's doing that, as it's not connected to my plex account as I didn't think that worked with the newer versions that have user accounts enabled.
Still have some content and libraries to rebuild before switching off the old one and using the new one, but wondered if anyone has seen a similar situation.
Sorry, if it's not well described. The few glasses of wine probably haven't helped!
PlexGDM enabled?
Suggest you complete the How to report a problem template in the pinned “READ BEFORE POSTING” thread so we can help. Without that info we are all guessing and will ask 100 more questions than needed to. (Ok maybe a slight exaggeration)
On a different platform I removed all traces of PMS and reinstalled it and it got rid of the Ghost PMS.
Probably you have to disable GDM in the PMS installed in the HP microserver, but as drewbie says, the better is to submit the problem report template.
Thanks for the suggestions. It's not a problem at the minute as I want to be able to access the PMS on the HP box until all the content is copied across onto the new machine. Having changed the GDM settings I'm now just seeing the one PMS.
Once everything has transferred (so slow with rsync) I'll switch PMS off on the HP box and run on the new one. Hopefully I'll then be able to see the media folders, but if not will post an update with the correct information.
Cheers
Right, an update to this and I can add some more files if required but I'm not sure they will help as I don't think this is a PlexConnect issue.
Finally got all my content moved across and PMS libraries rebuilt. Switched off the old HP jail and reconfigured PlexConnect to point at the new IP address. Made sure GDM was FALSE in Settings.cfg and also in PMS.
Anyway, PlexConnect didn't find the PMS so had a root around in the log file and it looked like an authentication issue as it's going to the right IP address

Had another look in the PMS settings and added my aTV and PlexConnect IP addresses/subnet into the Server > Network > Advanced > List of networks that are allowed without auth but still not showing up. From a little googling there seemed to be some suggestion that a PIN on the user account could cause a problem, so removed the PIN from my main user account (this Home functionality will be great once it works on the iOS version) but still nothing. Thought I'd try logging out of my Plex account to see if that reset some stuff, and as I did I could see my new PMS on the aTV.
As soon as I logged back into my Plex account on the PMS it vanished again! So, I logged back out and everything is working fine again, and so far none of the issues with buffering playback from the HP Microserver when it had any transcoding to do :D
I can post some log files to my dropbox account if this might be a plex connect issue?
Did you log into your plex home account within plex connect? It’s under settings.
I can't log into my Plex account through PlexConnect (can enter a user name and password, but then just get a spinning star), but I didn't think that was possible anyway since they added the Home functionality.

How about using the new Home User? Directly under the MyPlex setting in settings
Fixed this by entering the authorised IP/subnet as 192.168.168.80/24 instead of 192.168.168.80/255.255.255.0
Not sure why this would make a difference, but it did!
