Hello everyone...
Just tried aloff21's method and it worked on webos.
The videos play good... the only problem is the resolution. Any advice as how to fix it?
These are the steps I followed on OS X
1) Install Webos SDK (only SDK-CLI) and Oracle JDK
http://developer.lge...k-installation/
http://www.oracle.co...oads/index.html
http://developer.lge...TV/sdk/web-sdk/
2) Create appinfo.json.
Type in terminal: ares-generate -t webappinfo existWebApp
3) Modify appinfo.json
Use a cutom id to avoid problems
3) Place appinfo.json in simonjhogan's PLEX folder
5) Create .ipk file
Type in terminal: ares-package /path to downloaded version of simonjhogan's PLEX
6) Upload .ipk file
http://developer.lge...ApptestList.dev
App type: Native
H13 (webOS)
Search main run file and select appinfo.json
7) Download test app and unzip
8) Format USB to FAT
9) Create folders developer/apps/usr/palm/applications
Copy your test app folder to the last folder
10) Sign in to the TV with your webOS TV Account
11) Insert the USB into TV
12) Go to home TV menu and look for your test app
Yeahh... Now we have a dedicated topic!
I am coming! \0/
Probably for the best! :)
Accessing the app on the new WebOS platform is so much better.
App is kinda sluggish especially during playback but works.
Managed to get this going.
Took a couple goes. I think My mistake was using the packaged files not the gitHub files.
Oh well all going now.
Look forward to more improvements in the future.
Also note the Original posts show App type: Web Sub Type: Web but the quotes show App type: Native Sub type: H13 (WebOS).
I used web but haven't tried native.
The gitHub files work great. Much faster, too!
YAY!
Got it going. Thanks for the help you provided guys.
Couple of things I have not been able to fix.
My icon image doesn’t seem to flow through onto the TV. I have a blank blue box that when I hover over it, the name I have given it appears, but no icon.
Is there a way to increase the tile(thumbnail) size of the movies? I have to get up (god forbid that I move from my couch) to read what the movies are. I did increase the font size, so now I don’t have to walk so far across the room.
God Bless You Simon!!!
Here's Luca, writing from Italy.
The update rate of the WebOS store it's incredibly slow, and extremely few quality apps on it.
Yours will definitely be among premium apps, and the world is willing to pay for it!!!
I'll be abroad next week but as soon as I come back I'll test the app. I have a 47LB730V tv.
Cheers!
does this work for a plex server on an external network? or am I going to have to buy a damn raspberry pi
Hi All. I've got the app successfully working on my WebOS TV. Thanks for putting it all together.
Couple of issues.
1) Everything is way too small. Even with large fonts switched on. (42" TV)
2) Every movie starts with subtitles and when you disable them off the video stream won't continue. If I press play again the subtitles come back. I've tried disabling them in the previous menu and then starting but it ignores the setting. There doesn't seem to be a global setting for having them off all the time.
Thanks.
How do I install this using windows 8? Is there a video on Youtube?

Jees,
I have the netcast TV, but the opposite problem, I want the subtitle as default ON, ticked so in the menu, but every movie I start, the subtitle is turned off by the app, I have to manually engage it again...
I got to the step where it says add the appinfo.json to the simonjhogan folder. Is that referring to the download of the latest app on simonjhogan website? What folder would I put it in?

Right so I am at the point now of creating the ipk file. I have downloaded the last version from Simons site and put that on my desktop in a folder. I put the appinfo.json in this folder. I have now ran command 6.
ares-package \Users\Myname\Desktop\plex\227560
No ipk file seems to be getting created.

It creates the IPK in the context of the current folder.
Check the folder that shows at the begging of the command prompt;
e.g. C:\Users\UserName>

1. I agree everything is still a little small but kinda nice cause you fit so much on the screen.
I am sure this will improve with further updates for the WebOS bits.
2. Based on comments I am thinking perhaps subtitles are based on the SERVER settings around web streaming. I am guessing the server is transcoding the content and burning in the subtitles therefore no amount of switching on the client will help.
Just bought an LG (42LB6500) and got the Plex Client working.
I had a few issues where the CLI app, ares-generate and ares-package weren't working on OS X - turns out they had the wrong permissions and I needed to chmod +x them. All fine from then on, though as above the icon doesn't show for me.
All in all, the app works pretty well. Fairly fast, everything plays it seems. Though the layout is obviously not optimised for the bigger resolution yet, and I'm finding the lack of a dedicated play/pause button on the Magic Remote is a bit silly. I wish there was some way to reprogram it (i.e. change the voice button, or the OK button, into play/pause). But that's not a PLEX issue :-)
So thanks for all the hard work Simon on the app, hopefully it will get into the store soon!
Hi everybody, just got the app working on the LB730V.
Couple of questions:
- audio language selections: even if multiple audio streams are recognised and shown in menu, changing from one to another has no effect on the actual audio stream. Any way to fix this?
- embedded subtitles: keeps saying they are not recognised, even if they are listed
- dimensions of GUI: it's everything a little too small, it semms more a desktop pc sized GUI than a couch friendly one. Am I using the wrong client version?
Cheers!
Audio selection only works for languages not different audio formats - limit of TV api
Subtitles has limited support when not using transcoding and will only work when selected while video is playing / again tv limitation
The ui looks fine on my tv from 10 feet away but their is an option to use larger text in the option menu
Update … My bad this is the webos stream … The app still needs work and a lot of testing on webos
Simon
I was looking to buy a Samsung TV only because of Plex support, but seeing this thread made me look into some LG's TVs and WebOS seems a lot better than Samsung's SmartHub.
The problem is that I need to buy a TV in the next couple weeks, I don't mind waiting for the Plex app but I can't postpone buying a new TV. Can you tell me more about this project?
Is it going to be 100% compatible with WebOS or just a port? Is it going to have all Plex usual features? Is this an "official" app?
I can get by with DNLA support for now and paying for the Plex app is not a problem either, what I really need to know is that this is a viable project that will be a fully-fledged Plex client or should I stick with a Samsung TV?
Thanks in advance and my special thanks to Simon for taking up this project :)
