Single TV Folder full of multiple shows

now try this vlotty

Just as a heads up, you should generally be able to install new scanner versions and just refresh a section. There should NOT be a need to delete section, restart PMS, restart computer, etc. I do this all the time when testing and making changes, and it’s kind of magical to see movies or shows appear after and edit and a click on refresh.

Harley, in the code for your scanner, I see you’re doing manipulation of the file before you finally add it with

<br />
file=file.split('/')[-1]<br />
...<br />
file="_" + file<br />
...<br />
file=file.replace("_","")<br />
...<br />
tv_show.parts.append(file)<br />

This is not really a good idea, as you can end up added an invalid file, and people will see the "Cannot determine input format" messages. The file passed to parts.append() should be the untouched file that you were passed in :)

I just pushed an update to the official scanner with support for top-level episodes. Thanks to Harley for the inspiration!

Thanks for that tip-- I added a string variable to handle the show name manipulation and now the shows scan and play successfully! Thanks Harley for all your work on this scanner!

More experienced folks with Python maybe should make sure I didn't do anything bad with the code, but basically, just added a "filename" variable and changed all "files =" to "filename ="

elan, I think your scanner is broken. It adds all of the tv shows but does not actually play them. It just plays the first one in the folder. Or so it seems.

The official scanner in the store, you mean? Or the custom one in here?

Hi Elan, a little bit new here. Is there a place to download updates to scanners and such? Is that what you mean by "the store"? I have found a few things here or there in the forums but didn't see the update you referenced a few posts above, for instance. Thanks...!

Ha, you're totally right, I must have drunk/tired when I wrote that code. Fixed, and pushed an update to the store.

Welcome :) Scanners all live in ~/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server/Plug-ins/Scanners.bundle. It's automatically updated from Plex Online (which used to be called the Plex "app store"). If you go to Plex Online > More > Check for Updates you can look manually, or Plex Online > More > View History will show you the recent updates that have been downloaded on your behalf.

Thanks Elan, I did mean yours just have not been able to be back in a while.

Thank you very much for all your hard work. Plex is now the most used app on my Mac Mini HTPC

I will give someone beer if they could adapt this scanner for Music in the format of “Artist - Album Name - Track # - Song Title.mp3”. I have my directory structure set up in such a way that if I have any artist with >100 songs, then they get their own directory, otherwise they organized in relatively flat directories… Below is a tree structure to give you more detail as to what I mean.

I hate the way Itunes organizes music and have been a self-processed ■■■■ when it comes to keeping my music tagged and organized, but the music scanner only picked up a few (about 9) of the artists in my collection (over 300). Renaming all the files just doesn’t seem possible.

Please help.

After trying out this plugin, this comes pretty damned close to perfect for what I’m talking about; this certainly meets my needs. If my directory structure is added to iTunes, but I don’t allow iTunes to manage the files for me, I still achieve the desired outcome. The metadata grabbing is better than it was even under Plex 0.8…

Thanks for this, guys!

Thank you, was having the same issues until I downloaded your fix! Appreciated!
