+10 for slideshow … clearly it should be there just not working as the damn play button is there !!
alot of plex pass people here been posting for years for this please make it priority to get this for droids and apples alike !

Please! I used to presume “unable to play slideshow” as a bug.
A robust slideshow feature would be really useful.
Odd that this is still on their website and after two years is still isn’t true.

This is the one feature of Windows Media Center that kept me using it. Especially the random Pan and Zoom “Ken Burns Effect” that WMC would play with music.
My only option is to use Apple TV which has the Ken Burns screensaver but I’m still trying to find a way to integrate this an make it luddite-proof for my partner.

I am using Apple TV as well and I can’t get my photos to advanced to the next photo
pewit_compuserve_com, what do you mean when you say “my only option is to USE Apple TV”? Do you mean the photos app linked to iCloud?
Shocking that this is still a missing feature.
The most frustrating think is that Plex refuses to even acknowledge the issue.
Please fix it or tell us why. Is it because it conflicts with a feature provided by Apple? If so, just say that.
Actually I’ve decided to stay with WMC after researching the Shark Codecs which allow me to play additional file types.
Apple TV doesn’t allow access to live TV so you’d have to switch to Plex for that and for recording TV.
But I can’t see that going down well with the technically challenged SO.
It seems odd that Plex can’t just provide an API and allow third parties to develop the add ons they ignore while they concentrate on the core.
Oh and is it just me or does the Plex colour scheme suck - and API for different skins would be good too.
Well I realised I have been asking for Plex to do a slideshow for photos since 2016. That’s five years folks. I’ve never been that patient in my life before. So today I have moved everything across to Emby. It’s photos slideshow plays direct from my Synology NAS straight to my Apple TV 4. There is a wealth of transitions, and it just works. Bye bye Plex.

August, 2021 - years have gone by and it doesn’t look like the Plex slideshow functionality is improved in any way shape or form. Requesting feature upgrades seems very much like peeing into the wind. I’ve spent hours trying to get the slideshow running right, looking for relevant support info on the forum, researching other app options for viewing a working slideshow on my Smart TV but after several years very little has changed.
I have Plex running on WD My Cloud Home. I access the server from the Plex app on my Samsung NU8000 TV or through the Plex app installed on my Chromecast with Google TV, or on my Dell G7 laptop casting to the TV or just running Plex on the laptop Chrome browser, or on my Samsung Galaxy S8 Android phone and in ever configuration the Plex slideshow fails to serve many of the photos and sometimes just buffers nonstop.
I’m posting this here more as fair warning for those who continue to think they can make this work. Alternatively, if you are someone who has cracked the code and figured out how to make this terribly unreliable app run right…have mercy and post some guidance, will you?
Wondering why something so simple seems to be so difficult to fix, Member since 2017.

Apparently not. Just purchased a Facebook Portal+ smart assistant thinking i can slideshow my photos from Plex server using built-in Plex app. NOPE.
I setup everything for the first time, can’t get AppleTV to show slideshow, start researching, found this thread, delete PLEX

I checked back through my activity and it’s now 8 (yes, eight!) years since I first posted with this request. I’m buying more devices running Android (the latest being a projector) that can’t do a simple photo slideshow.
I really like Plex as a solution but am starting to think my loyalty (and money) is being taken for granted. I’m going to see what the alternatives are like. Emby looks promising and appears to have clients for the major TV & mobile Operating Systems.
