@sa2000
Has there been any devs looking into the slow channel tuning on Plex for Live TV/DVR? All topics where this have been mentioned are now closed but it still seems to take 30 seconds to tune a channel and doesnt seem to matter whether its SD/HD, HDR tuner or xTeVe virtualised. They all take between 20-30 seconds to tune but the actual tuners themselves are ready and tuned in a matter of seconds.

I’m in the UK with an HD home run tuner, it takes around 6 seconds to tune on my shields. I always feel that is an age. Must be something wrong with your setup as it shouldn’t take that long. Also when i used to use xteve it tuned pretty quickly too.

how many channels do you have? I read in an older thread that the problem was caused by having lots of scheduled recordings of series. if you have no recordings and a single channel set up in DVR then it tunes channels in a few seconds. do you record series through live tv/dvr?

I uspect this is to do with a poorly implimented db structure and it is probably calling the whole db in a search rather than just the required tables and so if you have a lot of sceduled recording entries it slows down the search speed

It’s only 5 seconds for me. I watched the logs while I started Live playback and I see it takes a second to setup a rolling schedule before grabbing the stream so is that the basis for your statement about lots of scheduled recordings?

Seeing the activity in the log, system response (cpu , disk, ram, network) could play a factor in startup time. I have a very simple network with few devices, server and HDHR are plugged into the same switch so can’t imaging much delay there.

Since you have the slow tune your logs would be required to analyze for any insight on slowness.

I’ve been researching this for days. HDHR tuner, server running on Mac. All was great for 30 days then every live TV channel buffering constantly. Antenna has great reception (no buffering on HDHR app). Deleted some DVR series and all is good again. Poor DB structure sounds like the issue. Thanks for the assist!

Looks like the devs need to take a look at this. @sa2000 is there anyone looking into this issue? Seems like there is a dB performance issue when lots of channels and lots of scheduled series recordings.

Synology DSM6 v1.25.8
Windows10 v1.26.1+

i have lots of channels (180), lots of scheduled recordings and sometimes Trancoder Errors - so recording fails.

failed recorded files are <10sec or <1MB
delete the failed recording and do a reschedule mostly works. (but sometime a bit tricky)

In my case it’s cable TV over FritzBox 6490 - i think it’s more a timing/channel-switching problem.
ChannelSwitching in Plex Web needs about 10-30sec. - but maybe related to buffering/recording.
VLC need about 2-4 sec for ChannelSwitching, but sometimes also hang, switching back and forward again can fix it.

actually i try to monitor those failures…

Switching/loading of channels takes about 20-30 secs. Someone reported that when they deleted their DVR and added it back in with only one channel and no scheduled recordings the channel loaded in a few seconds. Went back to 30 secs when he had added all his channels back in and a few series recordings

Who is the dev responsible for the live TV and DVR side of things?
